During the Victorian era, calling a book a "romance" had a different connotation. In those days, a romance was an adventure story: full of swashbuckling pirates, mistaken identity, revenge - and yes, love. The newest trend in fiction is "romantasy," where epic quests, dragons, and handsome villains harken back to those old "romance" novels...

Still no luck on finding a new location after the storm so we are building a sample to show investors how great we are at this and why they want us. Super grateful to Saugatuck Antique Pavilion for hosting this venture!

Ian neither first nor last to ravage Sandman Books 01/03/2023

We are so grateful to Sue Wade for putting all the chaos of the last few months into words.

If you'd like a clear, straightforward record of how 2022 knocked us down, here's the link for you:

Ian neither first nor last to ravage Sandman Books PUNTA GORDA — The roof literally fell in on Sandman Books co-owner Scott Hill. Twice.

Sandman Books roof collapses again 12/31/2022

Thanks to intrepid reporter Samantha Johns shining a light where it was needed, we now have a safe way to extract the books, so we can donate them to teachers tomorrow!

Boxes of books will be distributed in the parking lot tomorrow (12/31/22) for classrooms, teachers, schools, churches and libraries in need. If that's you (or you can pass a box along to someone who is), stop by after 1pm at 5240 Duncan Road, Punta Gorda, 33982

Sandman Books roof collapses again After being deemed safe, the roof that fell on the owner of Sandman Books, giving him a concussion, collapsed again. The owner of the closed bookstore doesn’t want the roof to fall again. Nevertheless, the store must be empty by the start of the new year, or everything inside will be thrown away. ...

All of these books will go into the dumpster unless a code enforcement inspector shows up here TODAY, 12/30/2022

Can you help me get Charlotte County's attention? I don't know where else to turn except to hope that one of you knows the right people and can help us out today (12/30/22). The bookstore move is at a standstill while we wait for code enforcement, who promised to be here yesterday but never showed up. They must visit us TODAY or the rest of the books are lost forever. I'm not being dramatic. That is literally what will happen. If we don't get a code inspector here today, all the books go into the dumpster. I have no choice about it.

If you know someone, or know someone who knows someone, please forward them this email or have them call me at 239-281-9642 so we can get an inspector here today, 12/30/22. No matter what, I will be on site until at least five pm, JUST IN CASE someone finally shows up from the county.

It shouldn't be like this. Bad people shouldn't get preferential treatment while hard working local businesses get thrown to the wolves.

Charlotte County Code Enforcement said they'd be here today (12/29) but they never showed up. We waited on site from 8am until 5pm.

Does anyone have a contact in Tallahassee who can help us get a building inspector to the site IMMEDIATELY? Someone HAS to come out and see this on December 30th. It must, absolutely MUST, happen before the end of the year. We have waited patiently for them to address this case, but we are out of time.
