Sermon Sampler: "Oh, What a Savior!"

Today at Provo Community Congregational United Church of Christ, Pastor William Davis preached from Exodus 19:2-8a and Romans 5:1-8 with a message titled "Oh, What a Savior!"

Using the image of the Israelites gathered at the foot of a smoking mountain in the wilderness, Pastor Davis reminded us that people often try to rely on their own efforts rather than God's grace. While humanity continually seeks to earn God's favor or solve its own problems, Scripture teaches that our hope is found not in ourselves, but in Christ.

The sermon emphasized that salvation cannot be earned through good works. We are saved by grace through Jesus Christ. Though we live in a world marked by pain, suffering, and loss, God has not abandoned us. As Pastor Davis noted, Adam failed, but Jesus succeeded. Where humanity stumbled, Christ made a way.

At the same time, faith should lead us to action. We are called to love our neighbors, serve others, and bring hope to a hurting world. Good works do not save us, but they are a natural response to God's love and grace.

Pastor Davis posed a simple but powerful question: Have you met Jesus? Do you know Him? The Christian journey begins not with what we do for God, but with what God has already done for us through Christ. When we place our trust in Him, we can face life with hope, confidence, and the prayer, โ€œThy will be done.โ€

Join us next Sunday, June 21, at 11:00 a.m. as Adrienne Rossetti brings the Father's Day message, "No Fear!" from Matthew 10:24-39. Following worship, stay for our Father's Day BBQ at noon as we celebrate the fathers and father figures who have shaped our lives. All are welcome!

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ We Love the Flag ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

On Flag Day, we celebrate the American flag and all it representsโ€”freedom, opportunity, service, and the enduring hope of a more perfect union.

At Provo Community Congregational United Church of Christ, we are grateful for those who have served, sacrificed, and worked to uphold the ideals our nation strives toward. We honor the flag not only as a symbol of our country, but as a reminder of our shared responsibility to care for one another and seek justice, compassion, and peace for all.

Happy Flag Day!

๐ŸŒˆ You Belong Here๐ŸŒˆ

At Provo Community Congregational United Church of Christ, we affirm and celebrate our transgender siblings as beloved children of God.

We believe that every person is created with sacred worth and dignity. Your identity is not a barrier to God's love, to community, or to belonging. You are welcome here exactly as you are.

In a world where transgender people too often face misunderstanding, exclusion, and discrimination, we commit ourselves to being a place of compassion, justice, and radical welcome. We celebrate the gifts, wisdom, and courage that transgender people bring to our congregation and community.

To all transgender people: **you are seen, you are valued, and you are loved.**

As followers of Christ, we seek to embody the extravagant love of Jesus by creating a community where everyone can live authentically, grow in faith, and flourish.

On Sunday, Pastor Alex Brown shared the message "Desire for Mercy, Not Sacrifice" based on Genesis 12:1โ€“9 and Matthew 9:9โ€“13, 18โ€“26. Reflecting on Jesus' ministry in Capernaum, Pastor Alex reminded us that God desires mercy over sacrifice and love over religious routine.

Through Jesus' encounters with tax collectors, the sick, and those often pushed to the margins, we were reminded that faith is not simply about following practices or traditionsโ€”it is about living lives marked by compassion, grace, and mercy. Jesus calls us to move beyond words and complaints and instead actively live out our faith through service, kindness, and care for others.

Pastor Alex encouraged us to trust in God's faithfulness and persistence. God strengthens us for the work of discipleship, gives good gifts to those who ask, and opens doors to those who seek God's will. As we strive to live according to the fruits of the Spirit found in Galatians 5, we are called to reflect God's mercy in our relationships, our communities, and our daily lives.

Join us next Sunday, June 14, at 11:00 a.m. as we welcome members of the Rocky Mountain Conference of the United Church of Christ from Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah, along with cyclists from the Fuller Center Bike Adventure. We are honored to host these special guests as they gather in Provo for worship, fellowship, and service. Pastor William Davis will bring the message, "Oh, What a Savior!" based on Romans 5:1โ€“8 and Exodus 19:2โ€“8a. We invite you to worship with us and stay for fellowship as we extend a warm welcome to our visitors.
