As announced on Thursday, September 11, 2025, Dr. Shawn Smith has been appointed the new director of the BYU School of Music! We are so excited for him and very grateful to Dr. Diane Reich and all she has done as the director of the School of Music over the past five years. Dr. Reich has expressed full confidence in Dr. Smith and knows that his love of music, the students and faculty, and most importantly, the Savior will be the center of all he does. We love you, Dr. Smith! Congratulations!!

BYU SUMMER ORCHESTRA | Conducted by THE

This August, the Summer Orchestra premiered an array of student works, from new and exciting modern pieces to powerful classical tones - conducted by Neal Baird, a graduate student here at the School of Music. The orchestra was comprised of community musicians and school of music students alike, bringing the passionate energy of the orchestral season to Summer audiences.
