We're just weeks away from the first day of school, and I'm so excited to finally have our schools back under local control. Last week I released my cradle-to-career plan - a comprehensive approach to providing students and staff with the tools they need to succeed.
I'm so proud of the progress we have made for our students over the last four years. We became the first city in RI with universal access to pre-K, expanded after-school and summer programs, and made historic investments in school construction.
That's what we accomplished while we DIDN'T have control of our schools, and now I'm ready to bring that same progress to our K-12 students. I'm honored to be endorsed by education advocates like Sen. Sam Zurier and Collective Action for Education, and I'm excited to get to work for our students.
Why I am voting for Brett Smiley for Mayor Email from Friends of Sam Zurier Dear Neighbors: Next school year will mark the return to full local control for the Providence Public School District (PPSD). This presents both risks and opportunitie
My heart goes out to people of Colombia after the devastating earthquake today. Providence is home to a vibrant Colombian community and we will hold Colombia in our prayers as they recover and rebuild.

The celebration didn’t stop when the parade ended!
Roger Williams Park was filled with incredible Dominican food and so much pride this afternoon. There’s no better way to spend a Sunday than surrounded by friends and neighbors celebrating!

The energy at today’s parade was incredible! Our Dominican community is an essential part of the culture, character and spirit of Providence and I’m proud to celebrate with them every year on Broad St!
¡Que viva la República Dominicana! 🇩🇴❤️

Over the last few days, our campaign signs across the city have been defaced with hateful and antisemitic imagery. While campaigns can often get heated, there is no excuse for targeted attacks and hate speech in our political dialogue. Actions like this are about more than one person - they send a message to an entire community that they are not safe or welcome here. That is not how we treat our neighbors in Providence, and it’s incumbent on all of us to disavow hate speech in all its forms and build a city where every community knows they belong.
David Morales: “I’ve never called for 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲.” 👀
Also David Morales: “It is now time to direct our voices to our elected officials and DEMAND that they 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲 from our city budget.”
Also David Morales: “We’re gonna fight to 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗮𝘅 𝗱𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 from [Providence Police].”

Yesterday on NewsTalk 99.7 & AM 630 WPRO, David Morales said he never called for defunding the police, and then a few minutes later he admitted that he did. Maybe he should take a look at his own social media posts.
Thousands of families in Providence are asking for more high-quality educational opportunities - and particularly multilingual opportunities. And yet David Morales just voted to stop a new bilingual school from opening in our city. The people of Providence are overwhelmingly asking for more options, and Rep. Morales’ vote means thousands of students will stay on a wait list.
We all agree there’s an affordability crisis in Providence, and that’s why I’ve taken a comprehensive approach to bring down housing costs in a way that’s real, sustainable, and built-to-last. We’re building new homes at a record pace, changing zoning laws to make it easier and faster to build new affordable housing, providing free legal defense and tenant education programs to prevent evictions, seeking voter approval for a $25 million investment in our affordable housing trust, and providing direct cash assistance to renters in need of help right now - a program currently being delayed by David Morales’ allies in the City Council. This is a complex issue that requires a comprehensive solution, and we’re keeping our foot on the gas.

From achieving universal access to pre-K, to making a generational investment in new school buildings, to expanding after-school and summer opportunities, I am proud of our record delivering for Providence's students. Now, I'm ready to bring that same progress to our k-12 schools, and I'm honored to have the support of Collective Action for Education in this campaign. While my opponent is voting to limit the bilingual education options in our city, I'm fighting to ensure all Providence students have a high-quality seat and the resources they need to succeed.
Collective Action for Education is happy to announce its endorsement of Mayor Brett Smiley for reelection as Mayor of the City of Providence.
“Families and children in Providence need a leader who believes that access to a good education should not be a privilege and that families are a key partner in their children’s schooling,” said Victor Capellan, founder and CEO of Collective Action for Education.
