Proven leadership. Real results. Let’s keep moving Providence forward.
In 2007, here at Nicks on Broadway, Jim and I got engaged. We got married the next year in Massachusetts, because gay marriage wasn’t yet legal in RI. But then I helped lead the successful campaign for marriage equality here in our home state. More on that next week!

Providence will always stand with our immigrant neighbors.

Yesterday we cut the ribbon on nearly 200 new units of affordable housing - transforming a former school building into a beautiful, modern living space for hundreds of Providence families. We're continuing to build new housing at a record pace and address our housing crisis in a way that's real, sustainable, and built to last.
New affordable homes unveiled in Providence The six-story building will serve households earning between 30% and 80% Area Median Income.
Raising taxes on specific businesses because you don’t like how they operate is not how tax policy works - and for good reason. Not only would this set a dangerous precedent, but it would also inadvertently punish small, locally-owned businesses that create good-paying jobs for our community.

Today on National Higher Education Day, I’m grateful for my own experience as a college student attending DePaul University many years ago.
College was a stepping stone that provided me with great opportunities and experiences and drives my passion in making sure that all Providence students are able to get the best education possible.

Happy Pride Month, Providence! 🏳️🌈
Each week this month, I want to highlight some places that are special to my and Jim’s story, and to Providence’s story. We’re starting this week in Mount Hope!
Our retirees who dedicated their careers to our city deserve the benefits they earned, and I’m proud that we have fully met our pension obligation every year I’ve been mayor. For my opponent to propose renegotiating those benefits - and then walk it back six months later - does a disservice to those who served our city.
I will never apologize for standing up to ICE, protecting Providence’s immigrant community, and reaffirming that Providence will always be a safe and welcoming city for all.
Listen to the full debate on The Boston Globe’s “Rhode Island Report” podcast.
This month, high school senior across Providence will be walking across stage to receive their diplomas, and I couldn’t be prouder of their accomplishments. Good luck in these last few weeks, and I am so excited to celebrate your success!
