🚨🦷 DENTAL APOCALYPSE 2026 🦷🚨
Estimated damage: Over $8,000.
We don't know who started the trend, but apparently everyone in rescue decided they needed expensive dental work at the exact same time.
🦷 Pepe LeQuill, who was abandoned at a veterinary hospital, had his dental today. The final bill? Approximately $2,100.
🦷 Hamburger has been with us for quite a while and is finally due for his dental. As an FIV+ cat, dental disease tends to progress more quickly, making regular dental care especially important.
🦷 Wisp, our 10-year-old mama cat, recently gave birth and now has a mouth that can only be described as... not great.
🦷 Mufasa, a 5-year-old who came to us from Providence, is also joining the dental club.
🦷 Robert Red-furred, a senior FIV+ gentleman we took in from OSVS, is preparing for his own dental adventure as well.
When all is said and done, we estimate we'll spend well over $8,000 on dental care for these five cats alone.
The unfortunate reality is that dental disease is incredibly common, and incredibly painful. Cats are masters at hiding discomfort, often continuing to eat, purr, and act "normal" despite infected teeth, inflamed gums, and chronic pain.
Dentals aren't glamorous. They don't come with cute kitten photos or exciting adoption announcements. But they are some of the most impactful procedures we can provide, dramatically improving a cat's comfort, health, and quality of life.

Ladies and Gentlecats, we find ourselves, once again, facing a Monday.
The best cure for a case of the Mondays is definitely cats.
So, to brighten the start to your week, we would like to present Jethro Paw. 🐾
He enjoys climbing his cat tower, pouncing, and 1970s British rock bands.
His biggest goal in life is to one day catch the red dot.
Favorite quote: "Brush that black cloud off your shoulder; twitch your whiskers."
He will be making a splash on the adoption scene soon. 💕
Meanwhile, show us your kitties! Drop your favorite cat photo below.

Cats never cease to amaze us with their resilience.
When Wisp came into our care, the plan was simple: spay her through our TNR program and make sure she received the care she needed.
Instead, she surprised us by giving birth. We didn't even suspect she was pregnant!
The past several weeks have been full of unexpected twists. One kitten sadly didn't survive. Another was bottle-fed for two days before being transferred to Tiny Paws Kitten Care of Rhode Island for specialized care. Wisp raised her third kitten for just over 24 hours, but it became clear additional support was needed, and that kitten was also transferred to Tiny Paws. Sadly, that kitten later passed away as well.
Last week, Wisp went to Scruffy Paws Animal Rescue because she wasn't feeling well and needed to be spayed (thank you Scruffy Paws team for once again being our hero's!). What we learned there added a whole new layer to her story.
Based on her condition, the veterinary team believes Wisp is at least 10 years old. They told us it's very apparent that she has had many litters throughout her life.
At just 5 pounds, it's difficult to imagine everything this tiny cat has survived.
For years, Wisp was likely doing what so many community cats do: finding food where she could, weathering the seasons, and producing litter after litter. The physical toll of that life is written all over her tiny frame.
Yet she's still here.
While Wisp remains wary of people, she's making really nice progress and showing more trust every day. She's not out of the woods yet, but we're doing our best to help her gain strength, weight, and confidence.
After everything her little body has been through, we think that's a pretty remarkable thing. ❤️🐾
(P.S. Both of these photos were taken shortly after Wisp demolished an entire can of Fancy Feast. We suspect she'd like everyone to know she's taking her recovery very seriously. 😂)

🚨 FOSTERS NEEDED 🚨
Right now, we have friendly cats waiting for a chance at a better life, but without foster homes, many of them have nowhere to go.
We know fostering can feel intimidating, especially if you've never done it before. If you've ever thought about fostering but weren't sure you could, these myths might sound familiar:
🐾 "I have other pets, so I can't foster."
Many of our fosters have pets of their own! Foster cats can be kept completely separate from resident pets if needed. A spare bathroom, bedroom, or even a large crate setup can work beautifully.
🐾 "I don't have enough space."
You don't need an entire room. A small, safe area is often all that's required. We've had cats thrive in bathrooms, offices, walk-in closets, and other small spaces.
🐾 "I'll get too attached."
You probably will, and that's okay. Getting attached means you've helped them feel safe and loved. The goal of fostering isn't to keep them forever. It's to help them find the family they deserve. At Ten Lives, our fosters are part of that process.
🐾 "I can't afford it."
We provide medical care and help with supplies. Your biggest contribution is providing a safe place for a cat to land.
🐾 "What if something happens?"
You're never doing this alone. Our team is here to answer questions, provide guidance, and coordinate veterinary care when needed.
Without foster homes, friendly cats lose their opportunity to come inside, decompress, socialize, and find adoptive homes. Every foster opening creates space for another cat in need.
If you've been thinking about fostering, now is the time. Even one spare bathroom, one extra crate, or one temporary commitment can change a life.
Foster Requirements:
👉 All fosters must reside in Rhode Island.
👉 Renters welcome with landlord permission!
👉 To ensure a safe, healthy environment for both resident pets and incoming fosters, all resident animals in the home must be spayed or neutered, seen annually by a veterinarian, and kept up to date on vaccinations.
👉 Space to quarantine for a minimum of 2 weeks
Please apply today to become a foster and help us continue our lifesaving work ❤️

Remember Jayden?
The cat who came to us after his owner passed away. The cat who promptly escaped his foster room, disappeared behind a kitchen cabinet for two weeks, and required some creative use of power tools and a humane trap before he could finally be brought back to safety?
Well, these days he's known as Yoda. ❤️
Yoda was adopted by a wonderful man who was looking for a companion for his resident cat, Aspen. While Yoda's journey to this point has not always been easy, his adopter understood exactly what he needed most: patience.
When Yoda first arrived, he spent a week in deep hiding. His new dad gave him the time and space he needed to feel safe. Little by little, Yoda began venturing out and showing his true self.
Recently, we received the update we've been hoping for.: Yoda now waits for his new dad in "their" recliner so they can snuggle while watching TV. At bedtime, he flops over and rolls around for pets and scritches.
For a cat who once felt the need to disappear from the world, seeing him choose connection, comfort, and love is incredibly special.
Happy tails, Yoda. We're so glad you found your way home. ❤️

This week we’re taking in three cats from Ocean State Veterinary Specialists and Bay State Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Services - two senior cats and one very itchy little kitten with ringworm.
Both hospitals reached out independently over the weekend looking for help, and thanks to our incredible foster network, we were able to confidently say yes (no frantic group chat spirals required… this time).
Meet the patients:
🐾 Quill (black & white senior)
Quill comes with a few extras on his “welcome package,” including an ear infection and significant dental disease. Like all of our seniors, he’ll also be getting a full blood panel + urinalysis as part of our basic intake protocol, that baseline workup runs $300+ before we even get to dental care.
🐾 Orange & white senior (FIV+)
He’ll also receive the same full senior workup and is very likely headed for a dental once fully evaluated due to his FIV+ status. These dentals typically run $1,500–$2,000 per cat depending on what we find once we’re in there, since cats always love a surprise plot twist!
🐾 Tiny ringworm kitten
✨ 21 days of medication
✨ PCR and culture (~$200)
✨ 6–8 weeks of quarantine
✨✨Possibly another 6–8 weeks if she’s not fully cleared after the first round!
In other words, she’s about to enjoy a very structured little timeout while she gets the care she needs.
It’s a big financial lift, but this is exactly what community support makes possible.
Funds from 401 Gives and the Raise Your Paws for a Cause auction are what turn “we wish we could” into “we’ve got them.” Not just for routine care, but for the messy, expensive, absolutely necessary medical work that gives these cats a real second chance.
We couldn’t do this without you - thank you!
For months now, this colony in Chepachet has lived in the back of our minds every single day. We’re pretty sure it’s consumed our Community Cat Lead Heather’s life in a way that should probably qualify as its own full-time job (or at least an extreme sport 😅).
Every time we thought we were making progress, another cat would appear. Another litter. Another pregnant mom. Another group of kittens trying to survive outside. Still, our team kept showing up, determined to help however we could.
Right in the middle of all of this, we got word about a giant litter of kittens hidden on the property.
For days, Heather searched for them. When she finally found the babies, mama cat was right there with them. Heather safely contained mama on a porch while trying to secure her, and spent FIVE hours attempting to trap her using the kittens as a lure… but mama just wouldn’t go in.
With eight tiny 2.5-week-old kittens needing immediate care, Heather brought them home for the night and bottle-fed every single one of them every 2–3 hours completely on her own while continuing efforts to reunite the family.
The next morning, after even more patience and persistence, mama was finally trapped safely and reunited with all EIGHT of her babies. 🖤
This video is from that very first reunion, and after everything this family had survived outside, it was such a huge relief to finally have them safe together.
A few weeks later, the kittens are continuing to grow, and like many community cats, mama has started becoming more independent and less interested in caring for them as they get older. She may end up returning to us from our friends at Tiny Paws for some extra socialization and continued evaluation while the babies continue thriving in care.
And while this family got safely off the streets, the reality is that the work in this area is far from over. Since this all began, we’ve now helped WELL over 50 cats from this colony and surrounding nearby colonies through rescue and TNR efforts. Every time we think we’re nearing the end, more cats appear needing help.
We’re incredibly grateful to PawsWatch at the Community Cat Center for continuing to work alongside us on neighboring colonies, and to Tiny Paws Kitten Care of Rhode Island for stepping up to take on this enormous family and give them the care they deserve.
No cat should have to raise babies outside. No kittens should have to begin their lives struggling to survive outdoors. Situations like this are exactly why spay and neuter work matters so deeply. 🐾
