Meet Andrew Harris, the newest member of the Gilbane Development team!

Andrew joins us as a Development Director, bringing more than 15 years of experience in student housing development. His extensive industry experience and background across the development lifecycle will be a valuable addition to our team. Welcome aboard, Andrew!

A great weekend to be in Lexington!

With University of Kentucky families in town for Family Weekend, the MXWL team welcomed students and their parents into our leasing space for a closer look at what’s coming to East Maxwell Street. From meeting future residents to a build-your-own bouquet bar and plenty of good food, it was a fun way to connect with the UK community and share more about the place we’re creating just steps from campus.

Opening in Fall 2027, Live MXWL will bring 655 beds of new student housing just steps from campus. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to spend part of the weekend with us. We’re looking forward to welcoming our first Wildcats home next fall!

Progress on the Floyd School of Medicine at the University of South Carolina's Health Sciences Campus extends well beyond the project site.

Members of the project team recently traveled to Barcelona, Spain, to review the Bulk Sterilizer being fabricated for the project. During the visit, the team observed the unit at the manufacturer’s assembly facility and confirmed the successful completion of its vacuum cycle test and quality assurance checks.

With testing complete, the sterilizer will now be disassembled, crated and prepared for shipment to the United States, marking another important step toward bringing the new medical school to life.

Long before residents move in, students begin to imagine life in a new community. That moment has arrived for Zaya and MXWL, two of our student housing communities set to open in fall 2027.

Last week, Zaya celebrated the grand opening of its Gainesville leasing office, while MXWL welcomed students to its new leasing space in Lexington. From model apartment tours and local pop-ups to wellness activities, giveaways and more, both events gave students a chance to experience what’s ahead and get to know the communities taking shape near their campuses.

With leasing now open at both communities, future residents can picture where they will live, study and connect. The countdown to fall 2027 is underway!

Celebrating Alex Marte’s 5-Year Work Anniversary! 🎉

For the past five years, Alex has brought a deep understanding of affordable housing, community engagement, and creative financing to Gilbane Development. As a Senior Development Director, he has helped move some of our most impactful affordable and mixed-income communities forward, from Linden Grove in Brooklyn and Barnaby & 7th in Washington, DC, to ongoing work at Sea Park Apartments and Renova West in New York. Across each, Alex brings a thoughtful approach to navigating complex development challenges, structuring financing, and working closely with residents and community partners to create housing that responds to local needs.

Alex, thank you for five years of leadership, collaboration, and commitment to the communities we serve. We’re grateful for all you bring to our team and look forward to what’s ahead.
