On January 19, 1998, in honor of the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a group of RI based organizations issued a call and a challenge.

They challenged the RI Civil Rights Community to work together across boundaries to make a positive change. They formed the Rhode Island Civil Rights Roundtable and, since that time, have been calling upon all organizations in Rhode Island who are interested in Civil Rights issues of any kind to join them.

Time to fight... ask your Senators to defeat the "kill the nonprofits" bill.

Sadly, the House just passed 9495.

This bill, IF IT PASSES THE SENATE, could drastically affect how nonprofits operate. It would allow the federal government to terminate the tax-exempt status of nonprofits without due process.

Thank you for all of your efforts to try to stop this bill, through signing the petition and calling legislators.

We can't stop! We must urge the Senate to vote NO, and we'll keep you informed about next steps. Stay tuned!
