We are incredibly grateful to the Rotary Club of Attleboro, Massachusetts for their generous support of Camp BraveHeart in Massachusetts this year!

This week, HopeHealth’s Deanna Upchurch, Senior Director of Community Relations and Clinical Outreach, had the opportunity to share the story of Camp BraveHeart—its history, our camp program, and, most importantly, the meaningful impact it has on grieving children and youth throughout the Massachusetts community.

Pictured are Deanna and Dr. Donald Pierce, Attleboro Rotary Club member and past president, who presented a book in recognition of Deanna’s presentation to the club.

Thank you to the Attleboro Rotary Club for believing in the importance of supporting grieving youth and for helping make Camp BraveHeart possible. We are deeply appreciative of your partnership, generosity, and commitment to the community!

For Patricia, the journey to hospice volunteering began with the unconditional love of her beloved soul dog, Layla. ❤️

Layla passed away in January 2025, but her memory continues to inspire Patricia’s compassionate service. The love and companionship they shared helped lead Patricia to hospice volunteering—and to being fully present for others during some of life’s most meaningful moments.

Patricia began her nursing career 12 years ago after making a career change and has worked across a variety of healthcare settings. Today, she serves as a Senior Clinical Consultant in Provider Quality and Performance at Point32Health.

Outside of work, Patricia is a wife, mother and avid animal lover who enjoys nature, yoga and discovering a great book, podcast or documentary. She finds joy in bringing a smile to someone’s face and says volunteering has enriched her own life in immeasurable ways.

Today, Patricia provides companionship to two HopeHealth patients, offering the simple but powerful gift of her presence.

Every volunteer has their own reason for serving. What could yours be?

If you’re looking for a meaningful way to connect, give back and make a difference in the lives of others, consider joining HopeHealth’s volunteer team.

Mindfulness tip: Before you reach for your phone or rush to the next task, pause. Take one slow breath in, one slow breath out, and let yourself arrive in the moment. Sometimes that's all you need. 🤍

We’re looking forward to welcoming Gloria Crist back to Camp BraveHeart as we celebrate our 20th anniversary this August 20-21! Gloria returns to Camp BraveHeart for a meaningful full-circle moment: to lead a special workshop with our campers and officially launch her debut children’s book, MamaOak and the Seasons of Grief.

Through the story of a young girl named CC and the comforting presence of Mama Oak, the book explores living, loving, and loss—and how art and nature can help us navigate grief and healing. Each camper will go home with their own copy of the book.

The launch at Camp BraveHeart will also mark the first stop in Gloria’s year-long arts and health series, supported by a Rhode Island State Council on the Arts grant, exploring the important role the arts can play in health, self-care, community care, and helping combat loneliness and isolation.

We’re honored to have Gloria join us for this milestone year and to be part of such a meaningful moment. We can’t wait to welcome her back to Camp BraveHeart! 💚
