Cadet Olivia Muscato, a licensed skydiver, is chasing an 11X pilot slot. She joined AFROTC to be part of something bigger than herself while pushing her physical, mental, and intellectual limits.

Cadet Trent Osier keeps it grounded with Taco Tuesday alongside the student veterans organization. He says what makes Det 028 special is the effort put into preparing cadets for active duty. With goals of becoming an NSAV pilot, he’s aiming for a future assignment at Hurlburt Field.

Cadet Connor Fackrell bounces back from tough PT sessions with a Blue Gorilla from Robeks and brings creativity to the det through the model planes he builds, boosting both decor and morale. He has sights set on Germany, he’s pursuing a pilot AFSC.

Different passions. One mission.

LLAB and PT this week kept cadets moving with purpose. PT combined Change of Command parade practice with a warrior loop run, pushing cadets to stay sharp and disciplined.

During LLAB, cadets reached major milestones by contracting and earning new scholarships. Cadets also received a briefing on the Women Airforce Service Pilots, highlighting the legacy of trailblazing women in aviation. The leadership gauntlet consisted of ORIs, FDEs, and other critical procedures to challenge cadets to take initiative, think on their feet, and finish the semester strong.

From March 20th to March 23rd, Detachment 028 Cadets participated in the Bataan Memorial Death March.

On April 9, 1942, over 75,000 American and Filipino soldiers surrendered in the Philippines after months of brutal fighting, disease, and starvation. What followed was the Bataan Death March—a 65-mile forced march under extreme conditions, where thousands perished due to abuse, dehydration, and exhaustion.

Today, the Bataan Memorial Death March honors their sacrifice, resilience, and the legacy of those who endured unimaginable hardship.

Eleven cadets from Detachment 028 proudly participated in this year’s march, honoring those who came before them while embodying the warrior ethos. The group was divided into two teams: Gold Team, consisting of Cadets Diaz, Bane, Brodie, Salazar, and Corral, and Silver Team, made up of Cadets Hart, Kim, Roscoe, Lopez-Garcia, and Clark. Cadet Krause competed independently and achieved an impressive 22nd-place finish out of 93 participants, while Captain Lettunich also took part in the race independently.

C/Trinity Taylor has grown in discipline, confidence, and resilience since joining AFROTC; learning to accept feedback, lead with humility, and push through uncertainty. Known as the “vet of the det” (aka Auntie), she keeps morale high with her pumpkin chocolate chip cookies and a lifelong desire to serve her country.

C/Carley Smith fuels up after PT with chilaquiles and has her sights set on becoming an Information Operations Officer, with a dream assignment in South Korea. Fun fact: she’s also a certified gymnastics judge in Florida.

C/Kenji Langlois relieves stress through running and extreme mountain biking. With goals of becoming an 11X Pilot and being stationed in Japan, he joined AFROTC to make a positive impact and preserve opportunities for others.

Different paths. Same mission. One det.

LLAB this week was highlighted by a visit from Major General Jeannie Leavitt (Ret.), who shared her inspiring journey as the U.S. Air Force’s first female fighter pilot and her experience accumulating over 3,000 flight hours. Her perspective on leadership, perseverance, and breaking barriers left a lasting impact on cadets.

The detachment also celebrated a major achievement, with over 20 Type 4 scholarships awarded, totaling $2.66 million, recognizing the hard work and potential of our cadets. LLAB concluded with a formal ORI, where cadets were evaluated on uniform standards, grooming, and military discipline, reinforcing attention to detail and professionalism.

PT matched the intensity with demanding calisthenics and combatives training, building strength, confidence, and warrior ethos across the wing.

Our annual Commander’s Cup was one for the books! Battling it out for pride, morale, and the Commander’s Cup title, both teams gave their all on the field. High energy, relentless effort, and strong team spirit were on full display.

In the end, Air Force Det 028 came out on top with a 9–0 win. Both teams demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship and competitiveness throughout the match.

C/Wilson enjoys grabbing a Dutch Bros Rebel after PT. Since joining AFROTC, she has seen personal growth through focusing on controllables and not wasting time on things she can’t control.

C/Stefanioutine aspires to become an 11M3E Cargo Pilot, with a dream assignment at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, and values DET028 for its close-knit, supportive community. He is known for being the OG Det Historian.

C/Schmadeke likes to recharge with a bagel and cream cheese after tough PT sessions and has developed stronger leadership skills and confidence through AFROTC. She also shared that she runs her own business, which is something many may not know about her.

Cadets in the wing emphasize how they unwind, grow, and stay motivated through AFROTC.
