Did you know that taking at least 20 minutes out of your day to stroll or sit in a place that makes you feel in contact with nature will significantly lower your stress hormone levels? That's the finding of a study that has established for the first time the most effective dose of an urban nature experience.

This is good news for our campers!

Interacting with nature improves cognition and affect for individuals with depression - PubMed 06/03/2022

Research published in the Journal of Affective Disorders in 2012 had individuals with Major Depressive disorder engaged in 50-minute walk in either a a natural setting or an urban setting. Results showed that participants showed an increase in mood after walking in a nature setting compared to the urban setting. Interacting with nature may be useful clinically as a supplement to excisting treatment for Major Depression.

This is why Camp Freedom is so important to our campers. They spend their days all school year inside a building and their summers in front of a screen. Camp Freedom is a great way to get some Green Time outside experiencing nature!

Interacting with nature improves cognition and affect for individuals with depression - PubMed These findings extend earlier work demonstrating the cognitive and affective benefits of interacting with nature to individuals with MDD. Therefore, interacting with nature may be useful clinically as a supplement to existing treatments for MDD.
