You've heard of Neil Armstrong as the first man on the moon, the tragedy of the Challenger, and the drama of the Apollo 13 mission, but what about the Gallaudet Eleven? Before NASA could send humans to space, they needed to study prolonged weightlessness on the human body. They recruited 11 deaf men from Gallaudet University, now known as the "Gallaudet Eleven". They studied how a damaged vestibular system (inner workings of the ear) afforded them a higher level of "immunity" to motion sickness. These motion sickness studies helped pave the way for NASA to send humans to space.
