Did you know California’s Advisory Commission on Special Education (ACSE) helps shape special education policy across the state? Established under federal and state law, ACSE advises the Governor, Legislature, State Board of Education, and State Superintendent on issues impacting students with disabilities, including student outcomes, family engagement, inclusive services, teacher preparation, and more. Made up of parents, individuals with disabilities, educators, and other stakeholders, ACSE meetings are open to the public, providing opportunities for community voice and engagement in California’s special education system.

Innovative, inclusive practices aren’t just the “right thing to do”—they are the smartest long-term investment a district can make.

This 90-minute session will use data and real-world examples to demonstrate the compelling return on investment (ROI) that inclusive practices provide, starting in early childhood and extending through K-12. Through sharing data and implementation experiences we will show:

Inclusion Drives Outcomes & Saves Money: Inclusive settings transform student achievement, strengthen family partnerships, and provide significant ROI and long-term fiscal sustainability.
The Data Proof: We will review special education data trends and showcase successful, innovative, inclusive programs that prove the financial wisdom of investment.
Cost Reduction is Real: Learn how intentional investments in inclusive early learning directly reduce future district costs—including fewer special education services, lower paraeducator staffing needs, reduced transportation expenses, and less litigation.
