ENDORSEMENT ALERT: We're excited to endorse Lisa Kaul for New York State Senate in her race for State Senate - District 39!
Lisa is a progressive champion for policies that ensure everyday people can afford to live in the Hudson Valley and do more than just survive. In the Dutchess County Legislature, she has shown that she’ll be accountable to our communities, not corporate donors.
Lisa shares our core belief that necessities like utilities, housing, and groceries should not be for profit. Having her represent us in the State Senate would mean having a champion for tenants’ rights, public power, and immigrant communities, instead of an antagonistic Republican who has stood against us at every opportunity.
We'll need all hands on to defeat Rob Rolison in November. Keep an eye out for a big canvass launch coming later this summer 👀

🚨 CALLING ALL COLLEGE STUDENTS!! 📚🎓 We just opened our internship application for the fall semester!
We’re looking for student interns who are down to spend ~4 hours per week…
👉 Expanding our student organizing and community engagement work OR
👉 Recruiting & managing volunteers in our grassroots fundraising program
Student interns play a critical role in our organizing, building the on-campus movement while developing tangible (and highly transferable!) leadership skills along the way.
If you’re interested in making college free, stopping New York from helping ICE, freezing rent upstate, and winning public power, then our internship program would be a great fit for you (plus we’re happy to help get you fieldwork credits 😊)

ICYMI: This week, Governor Hochul announced a 1-year moratorium on data centers in New York!
With this moratorium in effect, our state will be able to create real protections for New Yorkers amid de-regulation from the federal government. We're looking forward to working with our coalition partners NY Renews to make sure the regulation of data centers are in the interests of everyday people, not greedy tech billionaires.
Join our fights to transform New York so that it works for everybody, not just the greedy few. Sign up for upcoming canvasses and community meetings 👉 https://linktr.ee/forthemany

BREAKING: Congressman Pat Ryan voted against $3.3 billion in military aid to Israel and announced he’s rejecting all donations from AIPAC. He also signed onto the Block the Bombs Act and took it one step further, committing to oppose all military aid to Israel, including defensive weapons.
This significant moment is a testament to years of hard work by organizers in the district, as well as the public’s shift away from supporting the Israeli government's actions after witnessing a genocide unfold before our eyes.
We applaud the Congressman for joining thousands of his constituents in opposing the Israeli government’s genocidal actions. Every member of Congress who has not already done so should follow suit and join the majority of Americans in calling for an end to military aid to Israel.
Additionally, we call on all New York State legislators to sign onto the Not on Our Dime legislation to stop New York non-profits from funding illegal settlements in the West Bank.
One day everyone will have always been against this, and that day is very close. If you are an elected official who has not already come over the right side of history, the time to join us is now 🕊️🇵🇸✊

VICTORY! Last night the Ulster County Legislature voted in favor of taxing the rich to fund essential services 🎉
Legislators passed a resolution supporting the Ulster County for Fair Taxes Act, asking the state to authorize Ulster County to create a local surcharge on the wealthiest 1% of residents to fund services like SNAP and Medicaid, which are facing federal budget cuts.
Shoutout to the county legislature, Jen Metzger for Ulster County Executive, and Sarahana For Assembly and Michelle Hinchey for pushing this forward 💪
Now let's get the Ulster County for Fair Taxes Act passed at the state level next session!
Hundreds of people showed up last night to say: ICE OUT! No detention facility in Newburgh! ✊
The Town Board unanimously passed a resolution opposing the facility, but it doesn’t go far enough. The Board must use every available tool to stop this facility from opening.
Meanwhile, we’ll keep fighting to stop ICE. First they tried Chester, then they tried to use our county jail, then they came for Town of Newburgh. It’s only a matter of time before they try to go somewhere else in Orange County, so we need to stay organized.
Join us at our community meeting on July 30th to stay involved with the fight to stop New York from helping ICE! DM us for the link to RSVP 📨

Central Hudson just raised their rates AGAIN on July 1st 😭 Meanwhile, Central Hudson executives are making millions in bonuses. We need new solutions!
That’s why we’re fighting for the Hudson Valley Power Authority ⚡️ HVPA would replace Central Hudson with a publicly-owned utility, removing the profit motive altogether and keeping utility prices low.
We’re canvassing every week in Newburgh, Poughkeepsie, and Kingston to spread the word and build momentum 📋💪 sign up for a shift at the link in bio!!

Rent stabilization in NYC is the No. 1 thing keeping people in their homes and stopping gentrification. We need rent stabilization upstate too! 🏠
The REST Act would make it easier for cities upstate to opt-in to rent stabilization and freeze the rent. No more lawsuits from greedy landlords, no more confusion.
We're gaining real momentum. We came close this year and with new champions entering the legislature next year, we're within striking distance of making it happen.
Join our next community meeting on 7/30 in Poughkeepsie, Kingston, or Newburgh to learn about our strategy to freeze rent upstate and more. Link to RSVP is in the comments!

With progressive momentum on their side, tenant advocates see hope for the REST Act next session On the heels of the primaries, is there more of an appetite upstate for rent stabilization?
