Congratulations to Poughkeepsie Alumnae, Fiona Mauer (class of 2016), and her Drexel University teammates, for clinching a bronze medal at the Head of the Charles in the club eights a few weeks ago. It looks pretty sweet!
Also bringing home the hardware this season, Sanlys Sanchez (class of 2019) and her Marist teammates earned a coveted fish head at the Head of the Fish in Saratoga Springs in the women's novice four. Awesome way to end the season!
Julia Rigothi (class of 2013) was spotted in the women's club single at the Charles as well, proving to everyone the rowing doesn't have to end even after college!
And let's not forget current Poughkeepsie rower and senior, Emari Williams, who has been rowing all summer and fall with local club, Hudson River Rowing Association! Putting in the work for a successful spring season!

Nyraeona Hargrove, aka Ny, always brings a dash of elegance to our team while still bringing home the medals. Ny started rowing as a sophomore and moves easily from sweep to sculling and back, medaling in the senior quad this year in addition to racing in fours and eights throughout her rowing career. In addition to rowing she was the manager of the bowling team, and participated in yearbook, student government, Pioneer Post, Exploring College, Science Olympiad, and National Honor Society. Ny will attend Penn State in the fall where she will study biology.

"Crew is like family, with a bunch of people you can laugh and joke around with." Patricka has a great laugh and we hear it often, so this quote does not surprise us. She brought her laughter to the crew team her sophomore year and has been part of our family ever since. In addition to crew Patricka played tennis, was part of the Etech program and a member of National Honor Society. She finished her senior year 8th in the class and will be on a pre-med track at the University of Albany in the fall. They say laughter is the best medicine, we know she will put hers to good use!

If treading water was a sport Karibo Opuiyo would be a champion. When Karibo joined the team he wasn't confident he would pass the swim test, but he knew he wanted to do crew, so he came to the pool religiously to practice. For many people treading water for the ten minutes is the hardest part of the test, but by the time the test came around Karibo could literally tread water for an hour if he needed to!
Karibo obviously passed the test and has been on the team since 10th grade, finishing up his high school rowing career in the senior eight this past season. Another artist in the house, he will attend the College of St. Rose in the fall where he will study graphic design and we are confident he will apply the same tenacity he showed in learning to swim to everything else he does!
