: Poets' Walk Park
RED HOOK, Dutchess County —
Poets' Walk Park opened on June 22, 1996, and turns 30 today! The Hudson Valley has been finding inspiration here ever since.
Named for the writers the landscape inspired, it offers sweeping views of the Hudson River and Catskill Mountains. This summer, the parks team completed a new trail section to the summer house, hauling roughly 65 TONS of material by hand!
The materials were locally sourced: lumber from a Scenic Hudson conserved property and fieldstone from Dutchess County. The design creates a durable, historically appropriate feature that feels like it belongs in the forest, all while protecting the root system below.
🎉Built to last for the next 30 years!

This Juneteenth, take a few minutes to watch the ceremonial lighting of the Sojourner Truth Trail at Shaupeneak Ridge. A tribute to Black freedom and achievement, the path follows part of the route Truth herself once walked toward liberation.
Sojourner Truth escaped enslavement in Ulster County, becoming one of the era's most powerful voices for abolition, women's suffrage, and civil rights.
Let it become part of how you mark the day, a quiet way to honor Truth's legacy and the hardships endured by enslaved people.
