The Catskills are having their moment, and two signature Baxter projects continue to command the spotlight. Defining a new chapter for Catskills hospitality, Inness and Scribner’s Lodge continue to captivate guests while earning recognition from world-class publications.

In the late-summer edition of the Catskills travel guide, “16 Idyllic Hotels in the Catskills, Where Design Meets the Upstate Wild,” both Inness and Scribner’s Lodge were featured among a curated collection of destinations redefining modern Hudson Valley hospitality.

“Within minutes of arriving at this rustic but refined compound in Accord, you realize what a welcome shift it heralds for hospitality in the Catskills. With its 28 cabins and 12-room farmhouse and social hub, it marries Scandinavian-style minimalism and throwback Americana, with echoes of the Borscht Belt summer resorts that used to be ubiquitous in this part of the state. There is an excellent restaurant, naturally, with a menu of comfort food with shades of Italian and Middle Eastern cooking. The surrounding area is paradise for hikers and cyclists from spring through fall; in winter, the cabins, with their simple Shaker-style furniture and wood-burning stoves, are cozy refuges for relaxing under a throw and gazing out at the frost-kissed landscape. Kingston and Woodstock are nearby, though guests do not have to leave the property to have an ultimate upstate getaway here. “Scribner’s is impossible to miss; its all-black wood exterior bold on a sloping hillside at the tail end of Hunter, New York’s Main Street. A modern approach to timeless interiors.

At Vassar Alumnae House, Baxter Construction worked within the building’s established character to create interiors that feel both of their time and suited to the present. Two guest rooms and bathrooms were fully renovated, with updated plumbing, lighting, flooring, custom millwork, and furnishings bringing a fresh level of functionality and comfort to the spaces.

For the Baxter team, the work was less about beginning a new or modernizing the interior and more about building thoughtfully upon what was already there. The original character of the Alumnae House building remains at the heart of the project, while each new detail contributes to the next chapter.

We’re proud to be part of the restoration and reimagining of three historic Newburgh landmarks.

This new project includes the Masonic Temple, YMCA, and American Legion in Newburgh. Together, these buildings will be reimagined as The Newburgh Hotel, bringing Newburgh its first boutique hotel in more than 130 years, alongside new destinations for dining, entertainment, and special events.

A legacy of hospitality.

At the dawn of the 20th century, Newburgh stood at the height of its influence as both an industrial powerhouse and a destination for recreation and leisure.

Along the waterfront and throughout the city, more than 100 major manufacturing plants took root, producing wool, silk, paper, brick, and other materials that helped fuel an extraordinary era of art, architecture, and innovation sweeping the nation. But Newburgh wasn’t just a place to work. It was a sought after place to play. The city emerged as a major recreational hub, drawing visitors and locals alike for speed skating, yachting, rowing, sports leagues, energetic dance halls, and casinos.

Projects like The Newburgh Hotel are helping carry that legacy forward.

A stronger food system starts with the infrastructure that makes it possible.

This , we’re proud to reflect on a project designed to help the Regional Food Bank expand their reach and serve more people, more efficiently, across our communities.

We were honored to play a role in bringing this new, high-capacity facility to life. Featuring tilt-up concrete construction and advanced refrigeration technology, the facility can store and distribute more than 22 million pounds of food each year, significantly expanding the Food Bank’s ability to meet the growing needs of our region.

Projects like this go beyond the structure. They’re about creating the capacity, resources, and foundation for lasting and measurable community impact.

Set above a collection of commercial spaces designed to expand opportunity for Beacon businesses, the residences pair contemporary architecture with considered interiors and intuitive design.

A true mixed-use destination, 364 Main occupies a prime step-out location in the heart of Beacon, bringing together nearly two dozen residences and 10,000 square feet of retail space in a singular setting.

A testament to texture.
For this new residence, a palette of durable, time worn materials gives each space a sense of permanence, allowing an entirely new construction to feel deeply rooted in the 100 acres of Hudson Valley farmland that surround it.

Natural stone flooring, Venetian plaster, Roman clay walls, stone clad fireplace mantels, aged brick, and reclaimed timber bring depth and character to the architecture. Visually striking yet inherently functional, these materials embrace the subtle irregularities that evolve with age, grounding the home in a quiet sense of permanence.

There are so many bespoke details woven throughout this home, it is difficult to choose one that stands above the rest.

A higher standard of Esport excellence takes shape in the Hudson Valley.

As part of Marist University’s continued investment in this fast-growing industry, the newly completed Esport Lab establishes a cutting edge environment designed around competition, collaboration, and performance. Among the largest Esport facilities in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), the new space features approximately 38 high-performance gaming stations, two private competition rooms, streaming capabilities, and dedicated areas for team gaming and strategy.

From the positioning of gaming stations to integrated lighting and carefully considered workflow of the room, every element was executed with athlete comfort, focus, and performance in mind.

We are proud to have played a role in delivering a next-generation facility that reflects the caliber of Marist’s Esport program and the future of competitive gaming in the Hudson Valley.

At Newburgh Wireworks, adaptive reuse brought new life to an 1895 structure while preserving its original timber beams, hardwood floors, and brickwork. Originally constructed in 1895, the building’s industrial character thoughtfully remains woven into the transformation.

Modern systems, natural light, and contemporary details now carry the building forward. Once a carriage spring factory, this 1800s industrial building emerges as a live, work, play development featuring nine artists’ studios and over 5,000 SF of intuitively designed co-working spaces.

As the hospitality market shifts toward bespoke experiences and immersive settings, many of our projects have become award-winning destinations throughout the region. Modern hospitality projects, such as the guest cabins and stays at Inness, have captivated the attention of industry-leading publications like Vogue, Condé Nast Traveler, The New York Times, and Architectural Digest.

As summer winds to a close, we’re looking back at some of our favorite hospitality projects featured in the Baxter showcase, while looking ahead to current work that will continue to shape the Hudson Valley hospitality landscape.

Materials that melt into their surroundings.

There’s something uniquely special about materials that are designed to communicate with their surroundings. As they weather, patina, and change over time, they take on the rich colors, textures, and character of the landscape, allowing new construction to settle naturally and intentionally. This allows new materials to establish a stronger sense of connection to place, one that continues to evolve with time.

Trail Link Collective’s prefabricated pedestrian bridge by Contech creates a visual focal point while providing a signature resident amenity. Since installation, the bridge’s railing has beautifully aged and weathered, blending into the surrounding brush and tree line.
