"Research has consistently demonstrated exposing children to po*******hy is harmful in profound ways. The American College of Pediatricians (2016) stated that children under 12 who have been exposed to po*******hy are 'statistically more likely to sexually assault their peers.' According to the CDC (2022), 'about 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 13 boys experience child sexual abuse.' These numbers are staggering and yet libraries across the country seem complacent about maintaining standards that expose children to sexually explicit and pornographic material despite the fact that this will likely create more risk of sexual abuse for children. Protecting the innocence of our children is instrumental in promoting a healthy childhood experience which translates into healthy communities."
