I’m often asked with abstract art how I know when a painting is finished. I used to answer with explaining a combination of balance, variety of shapes, values and color cohesiveness - or something along those lines. Then last fall at a festival I just said “When I want to hang it on my own wall.” The collector smiled and pointed at the piece he’d been looking at and said, “I like that answer. I want to hang this one on my wall.” 🔴
