Unleash your creativity for a series of free, hands-on art workshops using natural pigments at Chehalem Ridge Nature Park. For ages 7 years and older. Registration is required. Sign up at oregonmetro.gov/GuidedActivities.

Natural pigments: The magical turmeric: In this workshop, discover the enigmatic turmeric, its magic and the beautiful range of yellows.
June 20: 10 a.m. to noon or 1 to 3 p.m.
June 28: 10 a.m. to noon or 1 to 3 p.m.

Xochitlapalli, the color of flowers: In this workshop, we'll go on a short walk to collect leaves and flowers to create a cold botanical print on paper.
June 27: 10 a.m. to noon or 1 to 3 p.m.

Tigard is getting a new park!

Construction starts this week for Steve Street Park. This new neighborhood will be 1.4 acres. It is located off of SW Steve Street and SW 84th Avenue. This park will have an open lawn, nature play areas, and play structures.

This project received funding from Metro's Local Share program. This program distributes funding to local park providers to fund community-specific parks and nature projects. Funding for the program was approved by voters in the 2019 Metro Regional Parks and Nature Bond.

Construction is estimated to be completed by the end of October 2026.

Due to high fire danger, a burn ban is in effect for all recreational fires at Metro parks. Fires are permitted in designated areas for cooking purposes only.

Starting June 1, Metro South transfer station in Oregon City will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily to the general public. Hours for the household hazardous waste facility will remain the same (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.). There are no changes to Metro Central transfer station in Northwest Portland. Questions? June 15–20 is Waste and Recycling Workers Week — a moment to recognize the crucial, yet often unseen work that keeps greater Portland clean and healthy.
Every day, people collect and safely manage our trash, preventing disease and harmful pollution. Others sort and process recyclable materials so they can become new products, supporting our region’s sustainability goals.
These workers are truly on the front lines of environmental stewardship. Through early mornings and all types of weather they protect both our communities and our environment.
Please take a moment this week to thank the essential workers of the garbage and recycling system.
