Happy birthday to our dear friend and brand director, Denis of . He’s been with us since the very beginning, helping bring Autora to life with care and intention.

Last month, his design studio celebrated its 10-year anniversary. In the middle of that milestone moment, he surprised us with the most meaningful gift: hand-painted canvas banners of our label designs. Denis and his family spent evenings and weekends over the holidays carefully painting each one by hand. Weeks of quiet dedication, poured into something beautiful for us.

It’s representative of who Denis is — even while celebrating his own success and a decade of building something incredible, he chose to give his time and talent to others. The brands he works with flourish, and it’s no accident. He pours himself into the work, and that generosity is felt.

The original artwork for our labels was created by — we can’t wait to share more about him in another post.

What makes Autora’s Sierra del Fuego a great gift?

- Local! Available only in Oregon (or Oaxaca)
- Versatile: A sipping mezcal that also makes a great cocktail.
- Artwork: original art by Portland’s own
- Single Origin: preserving the work of one mezcalero
- Rare: Made deep in the Sierra Sur mountains
- Taste: Let this Espadín surprise you! Fruit-forward, creamy, bright, with a white peppery punch.

La Sombra del Zorro - a mezcal from one of the most remote corners of Oaxaca, where mountain roads give way to trails, and hours beyond that, the palenque (distillery) is only accessible by horse or on foot. Mountain springs with cool water and shade from pine forests shape the environment where this mezcal is made.

This is La Sombra del Zorro, our High Mountain Artisanal Field Blend. Made with wild fermentation, spring water, and a 50/50 blend of Mexicano and Espadín agaves, it delights the palette with bright and vibrant flavors.

Esperanza makes memelas over an open fire in an outdoor kitchen just beyond the palenque where Isidro distills El Elixir, a wild Coyote mezcal. Their home connects behind the kitchen, and a barn with goats, donkeys, and ducks is tucked in just below. Agave fields stretch in all directions, with wild agave varieties popping up here and there along the edges and rocky terrain. The animals are free to roam in the fields during the day, enriching the soil with nutrients, and making the agaves strong and sweet.
