As the school year comes to a close, we at Peace in Schools are holding a lot of reflection and gratitude. We are grateful for every student, teacher, and administrator who filled our Mindful Studies classrooms over the years. ✨ It is because of you that we are able to bring our transformative mindfulness education to youth and adults all over the country.

One of the tools teens walk away from Mindful Studies is the ability to deeply listen. ✨

Think about it - how often are we listening without an agenda or an energy of fixing? While those things aren't inherently bad, they tend to be automatic - an impulse.

Most of us know the experience of being misunderstood; even when someone has the best of intentions, we can feel that we're not really being heard. Being a compassionate witness is an opportunity to consciously put down our habitual way of relating and create space for the other person to be seen and heard. Listening in this way shows them that they are enough just as they are. đź’›

In a world that often feels increasingly polarized and isolated, we are frequently told that we have to carry our burdens by ourselves. But the truth is, we were never meant to face the challenges of this world alone.

At Peace in Schools, we see a different possibility unfolding every day. What if we didn’t have to struggle in isolation? What if every young person had the tools to build self-resilience, deep empathy, and a genuine sense of community?

As the school year is coming to a close, we are looking towards the future. Over 500 students are already signed up to take Mindful Studies next fall and we cannot wait đź’–

“Comfortable. Peaceful. Free.”

Those are the words Evelyn uses to describe her mindfulness class through Peace In Schools.

In this powerful interview, Evelyn opens up about emotional repression, self-judgment, and how mindfulness helped her become more compassionate with herself.

“Before this class, I would… cover up whatever feeling I was feeling with disgust.”

“It definitely helped me be more self-compassionate.”

“Now I’m able to acknowledge my emotions.”

Led by trauma-informed, heart-centered educators, Peace In Schools creates safe spaces where students can slow down, reflect, connect, and simply be themselves.

We’re honored to share this story from the Peace in Schools documentary project as part of our ongoing collaborations spotlighting youth mental wellness and the transformative impact of mindfulness education.

“This is like life, this isn’t like schoolwork.” 💛

Peace in Schools student Evelyn shares how mindfulness class transformed the way she sees herself, her experiences, and the world around her.

In this powerful reflection, Evelyn encourages other teens to “let themselves be a little vulnerable” and simply listen—to themselves, to others, and to life.

Peace in Schools offers for-credit mindfulness classes in public schools led by trauma-informed, heart-centered educators who create safe spaces for students to connect, reflect, and grow.

At Peace in Schools, we believe that compassion means meeting ourselves with tenderness and making space for every emotion we experience. We also give ourselves permission to let joy in -- to notice it, nurture it, and let it radiate.✨

Whether it’s a small smile or a big laugh, we all deserve to inhabit our joy fully. 🌿💛
