‼️ Weight-Mile Tax (WMT) Changes Coming in 2027 ‼️

Due to House Bill 3991 last year, ODOT is preparing for important changes to the weight-mile tax (WMT) structure that will take effect on July 1, 2027. The new structure will greatly simplify WMT reporting requirements and administration for motor carriers.

**ODOT will be at the OTA Annual Leadership Convention & Exhibition to explain these changes in detail and answer your questions**

Key Changes
• The number of WMT tax rates will be reduced from 85 rates to 10 rates.
• Tax weight will be the same as registration weight.
• Vehicles will be taxed based only on the registered weight.
• Carriers will no longer need to declare or report multiple weights for different vehicle configurations.
• The $5 suspension fee will be eliminated.

Annual Over-Dimensional Truck Permits 06/04/2026

It’s Permit Renewal Season and OTA Can Help!

It’s been roughly a year since ODOT launched its web-based self-service permitting system known as ORION. It came with a bit of a learning curve and a fair amount of frustration as users became familiar with the system.

OTA’s crack team of permitting professionals put in the work to learn the new system and continue to provide the top-level service our permit customers rely on.

Aside from not having to navigate ORION yourself, here are a few reasons to contact OTA for your Oregon Annual Continuous Operation Variance Permits (COVP):

There are no extra fees. OTA processes the permits – you pay the same!
Permit profits go directly back to the association to provide more services for the industry!

Visit the OTA website to learn more about the permits OTA can issue and how you can request your permits. Go to ortrucking.org/permits.

Annual Over-Dimensional Truck Permits OTA is an authorized agent on behalf of Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) to issue Oregon Annual Continuous Operation Variance Permits (COVP).

‼️📢 Overnight I-205 closures start June 13 at Abernethy Bridge 📢‼️

Starting the night of June 13 and continuing several more times over the summer, there will be overnight directional closures of the Interstate 205 Abernethy Bridge as crews pour concrete on the newly widened bridge deck.

These overnight closures will either be northbound or southbound but not both directions at the same time. This work depends on dry weather, and schedules may change or shift on short notice.

The first of these closures will be northbound I-205 between OR 99E and OR 43 from 11 p.m. Saturday, June 13, to 7 a.m. Sunday, June 14. The on-ramp from OR 43 to northbound I-205 also will be closed.

Detours

• Northbound traffic will bypass I-205 in this section by using detours on I-5 and I-84.
• Local traffic can use the Arch Bridge to cross the river.
• Southbound I-205 lanes will remain open.

ODOT expects the next two more nighttime closures of I-205 northbound to take place in June. The tentative dates are the nights of June 20 and June 27, but these dates are subject to change.
