Just got an email from a young woman who came to Teens Rise Up 4 years ago. She is now studying at Howard University. She shared how she was quite hesitant at first to sign up, but that it ended up being a very important experience for her and that she has taken her learnings from that time into her university studies. It is always heartening to get an email like that.

Once again we will be putting TRU on hold this Summer. Due to Covid it has been a challenge to organize early enough and get the kind of support that we need to make it successful. Looking forward to running this special program in 2023. In the meantime, check out the Multnomah County Youth Commission. They are looking for youth leaders.Greetings, friends of the Multnomah Youth Commission:

We hope this message finds you well. These next few weeks we will be recruiting for next year’s Multnomah Youth Commission. See below for our recruitment announcement:

Hi TRU Community, I hope you are all staying safe and connected during these times! Unfortunately, we will still not be able to hold the 2021 TRU Summer leadership intensive. So disappointing! However, parents and teens -- if there is interest in creating some kind of shorter event, do shoot me an email and I will see what is possible. [email protected]

warm greetings to all! Dawn

Hi Teens Rise Up Community!
Oh what a time we are living in! Sending warm greetings to all of you. Hope you are staying and safe and hanging in there. Please reach out if you need help. I am hoping we can do a TRU program this summer, but at this point with escalating virus and the slow roll-out of vaccines, I am uncertain if we will be safe enough. If you might be interested in attending, do shoot me an email at: [email protected] so I can stay in closer contact with you.

Hey All, this free event is open to the public. Youth ages 14-19 will meet a couple times to get to know each other and prepare for the forum. Message me directly if you are interested. All other folks who want to attend the forum register with the link below. It is free and CE credits available for teachers and counselors. See you then!

Although TRU will not happen this summer, come join us for an online experience:
Centering Their Voices: Youth Speak Out on the Impacts of Pandemic

I am inviting a limited number of youth who would like to meet from August 10-12th on-line for 90 minutes to speak about their experiences and get to know each other. We want to hear how you are getting on during the pandemic in terms of your health, family, relationships, on-line school, and other meaningful experiences. We also want to hear your voices in regard to issues of social justice, race and protest.
Youth will then present their perspectives to the public on August 13th in a 2-hour session where educators, practitioners, parents and friends can hear you. This event will provide continuing ed. credit for teachers and counselors. We look forward to learning and gaining more insight directly from student voices to support community and create a more compassionate world. Our hope is that the forum will help to support our youth when they transition back to school.

If you are between the ages of 14-19 and would like to participate, please write to me at [email protected]

Dear TRU Community, I am so sorry to say that we have to cancel our program for 2020. It is really sad and I know many of you have been looking forward to it. We don't feel able to deliver the kind of program that we all would enjoy with the limits of social distancing. Please keep in contact with us -- we are planning for TRU 2021 and look forward to seeing you all then. Stay healthy and safe and make the best out of these times. Remember your creative spirit and use the time to maybe learn or try new things. Keep contact with friends and family on-line and let's hold together as the powerful community that we are. sending love, Dawn

Hi TRU community. I am wondering how you are all doing during these times. I was thinking of creating an on-line conference where we can connect and say hi. If this would interest you do message me. If there is enough interest I will organize it. In the meantime stay safe and see if you can use the time to do something creative or new that you always wanted to do. Remember loved ones and relationship connections and your inner life! Big hugs to all.
