I just finished another new painting, one that’s been on the back burner for quite a while. It’s a scene of Stonington wharf with the old style lobster traps and the lobster shack on the pier. There’s something about those classic traps and weathered buildings that capture the heart of Maine.

I finally got around to painting the Stonehouse at Bayberry Cove. I’ve driven by that house for more than 30 years and taken 100 photos of it — always thinking, one day I’ll paint that. I knew it would make a great painting, but also that it would take a lot of time and patience to get all the detail right.

After finishing December’s calendar painting and a commission, I had a little break — so I decided it was time. This one’s been on my list for a long time, and I’m glad I finally did it.
