π» Recovery is a journey of transformation, and a key part of that journey is widening your bandwidth for emotions. πβ¨ Itβs about feeling what you feelβwithout letting it lead to self-indulgence, self-harm, self-sabotage, or self-blame. When we allow ourselves to experience our emotions fully, we pave the way for true healing. π
We have to practice allowing the discomfort of not turning to old coping mechanisms, painful as it might feel. Instead, let those moments strengthen you. You're rewiring your brain so that YOU get to have more control over your impulses, cravings, and outcomes.
Every emotion is a part of your story, guiding you toward higher ground in your recovery and life. ππͺ

πβ¨ New Year's Eve can be a challenging time for those on the path to sobriety. The excitement, the celebrations, and sometimes the pressure to indulge can feel overwhelming. But remember, this moment is about YOU and your journey towards a healthier, more fulfilling life. π±πͺ
In yoga, we often talk about the importance of Sitting, Reflecting, and Returning to Yourself. This practice can be a powerful tool during this festive season. ππ§ββοΈ
Instead of getting swept away by distractions or peer pressure, take a moment to pause. Breathe deeply and connect with your intentions for the coming year. What do you want to achieve? What transformations are you willing to embrace? This is your time to shine! πβ¨
Create a space for mindfulness amidst the chaos. Whether itβs a quiet room, a cozy corner, or even a park, find a spot where you can sit, reflect, and return to your core values. Let the energy of the night fuel your commitment to sobriety rather than detract from it.
Surround yourself with supportive friends who uplift your spirit and share your vision for a sober life. Remember, itβs okay to say no to situations that donβt align with your goals. You are courageous, and your journey is inspiring! ππ
Letβs make this New Yearβs Eve a celebration of resilience, growth, and community. Together, we can create a ripple effect of positive change. Hereβs to new beginnings and a year filled with purpose! π₯³π

β¨ As we navigate the days following Christmas, the anticipation of New Yearβs celebrations looms large. π For those on a journey of recovery, this season can be a double-edged sword. But hereβs the truth: with personal resilience and unwavering resolve, we can turn potential pitfalls into stepping stones. π
Focus on what grounds youβyoga, mindfulness, and the support of your recovery community.
** Tune Into Your Physiology** Out of balance biochemistry is a big reason that we get cravings and triggers. Tune in, go for walk, do yoga, take a hot shower, shift your physiology toward homeostasis.
** Tend + Befriend Your Nervous System** The nervous system is easily hijacked because it is a fast-acting system. This means it can also be made responsive - in your favor. Do what brings you to the relaxation response where your nervous system will hum along in the Tend + Befriend mode.
** Nourish Your Brain + Body** Check in with yourself not only about the foods you eat, but also the company you keep. Don't skip nourishing meals and Don't skip meetings!
** Reduce That Which Overstimulates You ** Turn down the noise in your head, reduce the volume of the inner critic. Practice skillfully avoiding getting overstimulated - it takes a toll on your nervous system and can be harder to recover from than being pro-active.
** Listen To Something Inspiring** A meeting, a podcast, and inspiring speaker, beautiful music. Nourish your senses and awaken your mind.

The holidays can bring up old emotions, habits, and reflexes. It's often an easier time to slip into magical thinking about our relationship with alcohol or substances. Or, we may find ourselves feeling emotionally more sensitive or easily triggered, perhaps not realizing that the undercurrent of past and present pain might be intruding on our present moment clarity.
In times like this, we need to strength our Core Habits of Well-Being:
π
**Begin Each Day with Purpose**: Embrace the morning by setting an intention. A few moments of meditation or yoga can anchor you in the present, paving the way for a day focused on purpose and clarity, with a dedication to your sobriety. ππΏ
π **Cultivate a Journaling Practice**: Dedicate time each day to jot down your thoughts, emotions, and challenges. This practice not only helps in processing emotions but also encourages self-awareness and personal growth. Let your journal be a safe haven for your journey. ππ
πββοΈ **Engage in Daily Movement**: Incorporate movement into your daily routine. Whether it's yoga, walking, or any form of exercise that you enjoy, physical activity boosts your mood and strengthens your resolve. Your body and mind with both be able to better metabolize not only food but thoughts and emotions too. Remember, movement is medicine! πͺπ
π₯ **Prioritize Nourishment**: Choose foods that nourish your body and mind. Cooking can be a mindful, creative process that connects you to your body. Focus on integrating whole foods into your diet remembering that Nature is filled with wisdom from which we can be guided. π½οΈβ¨
π€ **Foster Gratitude**: Practicing gratitude is an attitude. It might seem challenging, especially when real pressures and emotions are swirling. Yet, the practice of shifting our attitude to gratitude has research that shows how it impacts the brain so POSITIVELY! Sometimes, we have to Fake It Til We Make It... so go easy on yourself if practicing gratitude feels challenging.

πβ¨ Discover the healing power of yoga in your recovery journey! Twisting poses are more than just physical practice - they are a way to massage our vital organs and support our digestion. π Of course, they also help relieve back pain, increase flexibility and help with deeper, more natural breathing.
By releasing held tension and emotions, we create room for deeper breaths and fresh perspectives. ππ Recovery is a journey of discovery - we learn what we have been holding onto, and why; we also learn new ways of being. Releasing the old allows us to bring in the new.
Every twist release pain, opens us to possibilities, and brings us closer to our true selves. π»πͺ

π Recovery is a journey of transformation, and sometimes all it takes is a single deep breath to shift our perspective. π¬οΈ When we pause and focus, we activate our front lobeβthe wise decision-maker within us. This connection to the present moment empowers us to make choices that support our recovery. Without this awareness, we may fall prey to anxiety and the dopamine spikes that can derail our progress. Letβs cultivate mindfulness and breathe into our strength, reminding ourselves that we are capable of profound change. Together, we can create a brighter future! ππ
