Educate and Entertain. Takohachi was founded in 2007 as a non profit organization to preserve DENTOU GEINOU or Traditional Japanese Music and Dance.
We introduce Japanese culture through variety of Japanese Music from powerful taiko to small ensemble with Tsugaru Shamisen and Shinobue (bamboo flute). Takohachi seeks to educate and entertain as we perform throughout the Portland area at schools, festivals and cultural events.
Takohachi & Kotori Kai Shamisen 3rd Annual Recital is on this Saturday at the Clinton Street Theater!
Shamisen workshop takes a lot of effort. The hardest obstacle is getting ready the instrument for the students! They are hard to get, and maintained well for this purpose. We managed to offer a series of beginner shamisen workshop today and another one in 2 weeks! Four new students learned a lot today, and going home to study more before the second one. We don’t know when we can offer such workshop again, but we can put you on a waiting list… email [email protected]!
