Board Member Spotlight: John Dolan
Meet John Dolan, a member of MACA’s Storytelling & Marketing Committee and the newly elected Chair beginning in July.
During last night's board meeting, there was a desire to introduce more of the people behind MACA’s work. As someone who typically prefers working behind the scenes, I initially resisted the idea. But since I recently helped introduce some of our newest board members, it felt only fair to go next.
My creative journey began with mixed media art before evolving into filmmaking, eventually leading to a career in global film and television marketing with Fox and Disney. In 2020, I moved to Multnomah Village and quickly came to appreciate the creativity, connection, and sense of community that make this neighborhood so special.
Like many families, my connection to the Multnomah Arts Center became personal. My daughter Eva enjoyed theater classes in the Cottages, and over time I came to see MAC as much more than an arts center. It's a place where people of all ages can learn, create, and belong.
One of the things I value most about serving on the MACA Board is working alongside such passionate and dedicated volunteers. I’m proud of the work we did supporting the Portland Parks Levy and excited about the opportunities ahead as we continue advancing our mission of Arts for All.
Thank you for being part of this community. If you have ideas, feedback, or simply want to say hello, we'd love to hear from you.

Meet Stephanie Tichenor, one of MACA’s newest board members!
Stephanie serves on our Fundraising Committee, helping support the programs and creative opportunities that make the Multnomah Arts Center such a special community resource.
Her journey in the arts began as a dancer before transitioning into film and television. Today, she continues to champion the arts through her involvement with several performing arts organizations and her commitment to a thriving local arts community.
A longtime member of the Multnomah Village community, Stephanie has deep roots in the neighborhood. Her family’s connection includes her mother-in-law, Bobby Tichenor, founder of Annie Bloom’s Books in 1978. Stephanie now lives in South Portland with her husband, son, and their Bernedoodle, Honey.
We’re grateful to have Stephanie’s passion for the arts, community, and philanthropy helping support MACA’s mission.
Welcome, Stephanie!

Join us at the MAC Front and Center Galleries for a joint opening reception Thursday, May 28th from 6 to 8 pm. Meet the artists, enjoy refreshments, and share a lovely evening with fellow art appreciators.
A few beautiful moments from yesterday’s piano recital at Multnomah Arts Center.
Led by instructor Morgan Wilhelm, the afternoon showcased the hard work, focus, and creativity of young musicians sharing their music with family and friends. From first recitals to more advanced performances, every student brought something special to the stage.
We captured a few select performances from the day to celebrate the joy of learning and performing music at MAC.
Interested in music lessons? We offer private instruction in piano, voice, strings, percussion, and more for all ages and experience levels.

Please welcome Angela, one of MACA’s newest board members! She’ll be joining as co-chair of the Events Committee and is excited to help support the Multnomah Arts Center as a welcoming place for art, creativity, and community.
Angela lives in Southwest Portland with her husband Josh and their dog Gizmo (a very good mogwai). A former teacher and software engineering manager, she is now a practicing artist working primarily in ceramics and fiber arts. She’s also a lifelong learner who loves taking workshops and exploring new creative mediums alongside fellow artists and makers.
Angela’s passion for learning and connection drew her to the Multnomah Arts Center, where she believes art should be accessible to everyone and deeply connected to community support.
In Angela’s words:
“Community is really important to me, especially in this era of remote work and virtual communication, where it can feel difficult to find your community and make the effort for connection. I like that Multnomah Arts Center provides that gathering space for people and pays attention to what the community needs.”
Welcome to MACA, Angela!

The Multnomah Arts Center presents three new exhibitions in its Front & Center Galleries.
Conjuring Color, a group exhibition by the Portland Natural Dye and Pigment Group, will feature work by over 15 local artists in the Front Gallery. PDX Natural Dye and Pigment https://www.facebook.com/groups/pdxdye/ is a group of regional artists who create colors out of natural materials like rocks, rust, kitchen scraps, fungi, and plants. Utilizing a range of techniques for transferring this color, they then create sculpture, books, paintings, drawings, apparel, quilts and more. "Most of the color in these works has been made from raw materials we have grown, gathered, or salvaged, and then extracted and/or prepared by hand," they say. "Our processes are informed by traditional recipes and cross-cultural wisdom as well as modern methods."
