Venerable Lozang Yonten reflects on Suzuki Roshi’s phrase “Zen mind, beginner’s mind.” A beginner’s mind assumes you can learn—so there’s real confidence in it. With effort and joy, why should learning or transformation ever end? Beginner’s mind stays spacious, curious, and open—while “expert mind” hardens and feels like it has something to prove.

Please join us for a 4-week course on deepening and expanding our loving-kindness and compassion.
Each of us already possesses a basic goodness — a natural caring heart that can be cultivated and expanded. Beginning with self-compassion as our foundation, we will explore how caring for ourselves can deepen our compassion for others and gradually open into bodhicitta, the awakened heart.
Through meditation, listening, contemplation, questioning, and discussion, we will further illuminate and develop this naturally abiding capacity for compassion.
With Venerable Tenzin Drolma

Join us in celebrating Saka Dawa, one of the most sacred days in the Buddhist calendar. 🕯️
Saka Dawa commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and parinirvana of Shakyamuni Buddha — a time traditionally devoted to meditation, prayer, generosity, and compassion. During this auspicious day, positive actions are said to be especially powerful and meaningful.
Together, we will practice Guru Puja (Lama Chöpa) and honor the Buddha’s life and teachings in community.

Venerable Lozang Yönten offers a powerful reminder: when we hold people to impossible standards, we suffer too. The point of practice is not to close off, but to let go of grasping and stay connected with a softer heart.

On Mother’s Day, we honor the Twenty-One Tārās of Lama Atīśa’s tradition and the boundless compassion they embody.
In the lamrim teachings, Lama Atīśa transmitted the seven-point cause-and-effect instruction for generating bodhicitta—the awakened heart dedicated to the benefit of all beings. The practice begins by reflecting that all beings have, at some time, been our mothers: caring for us with kindness, protection, and love.
Remembering their kindness, we cultivate gratitude.
From gratitude arises the wish to repay that kindness.
From this, love and compassion expand beyond self and other, embracing all beings without exception.
Tārā, the compassionate Mother of Liberation, reminds us that wisdom and compassion are inseparable—and always responsive to suffering.
On this day, may appreciation for our own mothers open into compassion for all mother sentient beings.
