“Engaging with the genius of Mozart’s music is a true privilege” –Jan Lisiecki

Listening to pianist Jan Lisiecki talk about Mozart, it becomes apparent that the 31-year-old Canadian artist means what he says. In John Pitman’s latest Arts Blog feature, Lisiecki shares why he paired two of the composer's seemingly distant piano concertos on the same album.

On this day 166 years ago, Spanish composer Isaac Albéniz was born!

The child prodigy seemed to know he was destined for a career in music from an early age. Inspired by one of his teachers, composer Felip Pedrell, Albéniz devoted himself to writing distinctly "Spanish"-sounding music, often borrowing elements from regional folk music.

Since his death, Albéniz's music has endured for listeners of all genres, with many appearances in popular culture. For example, The Doors incorporated "Asturias" by the Spanish composer for their song, "Spanish Caravan."
