Actors Tank
Actors Tank is a working micro film studio and actor lab inside Portland’s Union Station, founded by Sasha Santiago. It’s a do-tank.
Actors build characters, rehearse on their feet, shoot scenes, and screen the work. Not theory - proof of living cinema.

In Raccoons with Dreams, an Actors Tank original with Ollie Philips and Simon Tian - a clingy writer reencounters an old muse during his book tour, desperate to reclaim the inspiration they once shared. But the muse has moved on and wants no part of the writer’s nostalgia. As the writer spirals into a cringeworthy confrontation, his former friend gently shuts him down, leaving both the past and the writer awkwardly adrift.
Actors Tank shorts are built around the actors cast in each role. Scripted and directed by Sasha Santiago Sasha Santiago , the process fosters collaboration by drawing on each actor’s type, range, instincts, and individual skills to shape the final film.

RACE END is a conspiracy thriller about the last sliver of human agency before AI fully takes the wheel.
These images are an early exploration of the film’s visual language and the interior worlds of its characters. Each portrait is an attempt to capture the private tensions, contradictions, and emotional landscapes that drive the story.
We’ll soon launch a website introducing the cast behind RACE END. Until then, here’s a first look.

Blending actors playing lawyers with lawyers playing actors in a high-tension scene is a great way to set the bar for everyone involved.
You know it’s working when the actors ask, “Has the scene started yet?” because the lawyers are delivering their lines so naturally that no one can tell where reality ends and the performance begins.

All through July, we’ve been rehearsing scenes for the feature film: Race End. It’s surprising how many actors say they get little, or no, rehearsal time. Rehearsal is essential to building a character: finding the notes between the lines and the subtext brewing in the silence.
That’s the difference between capturing a performance and creating one together.

These men are putting in the reps. Rehearsal. Rehearsal. Rehearsal is the secret ingredients to building a film that feels like it has a pulse. Thanks to Rand Raynor Actor for his continue commitment to supporting his fellow actors in the scenes he’s not even in. And here’s to Michael McNeal | NMLS 2614505 and LeFoster Wiliams for digging deep into finding the tone of their characters.

Truth is whatever someone has the guts to believe against the odds, say out loud in the room, stand for, or persuade others to recognize (or buy) and then be able to live with themselves afterwards.
But authenticity alone is not enough. Because even authenticity can be manufactured.
The real moat is intuitive alignment. Build or participate in a filmwork that holds this attribute.

There is no gatekeeper. (This a previous from a substack post entitled: The Gatekeepers Have Been Furloughed - and nobody is minding the front of the house. So what does a Cinemaker do when the industry has already bottomed out?
You can make a film with whatever you have and whoever wants in. You can publish it, position it, or pay to put it in front of audiences on almost any platform on Earth.
Then comes the part no one can do for you: give people a reason to watch.
No one is stopping you except your ability to make a good film.
Can you?
You don’t need a pile of money. You need a vision, a feasible plan of attack, and the discipline to execute.
