Good Hand Studio

This is a very special photo. Taken by my daughter Lauren, it shows me with the last group of campers on the final day of summer sewing, August 17th, 2023. We are all happy from a week of making toys.

Earlier this week, subscribers to our newsletter learned of my decision to close the studio. Teaching kids hand skills to make things has been the most rewarding work I’ve ever done. A part of my heart is broken but change is calling.

Our final day of doll and toy camp was such fun. Just look at these brilliant creations: twin snakes, a panda pillow, a little doll and three sweet doggies complete with collars and leashes. What talented kids! 🤩

These portrait dolls are so charming and instantly loveable. Two are self-portraits, one is a best friend and two are pets. More friends and creatures are in the working stages.

We are making dolls and soft toys this week. Our campers have each got two wonderful projects already going. And thank goodness we made it through the hottest day of our week!

We had a marvelous finish in Fashion/Re-Fashion camp today. What incredible and inspired outfits these kids crafted—most out of pre-existing garments! Such a fun process. And we saw another quilt get finished. Way to go, young sewists! 👏🏻

Whitney is like a ray of sunshine in her new self-made outfit. Bravo, Whitney—this took lots of patience.

Another wonderful camp finished today. I wasn’t able to get photos of all the impressive creations but highlights from the week include Sophia’s duffle bag, Storm’s Pride flag and Charlie’s fishy drawstring backpacks. Not shown are multiple small wallets and zip pouches, another duffle bag, another fish backpack, two custom tote-bags and an insulated water-bottle holder—every one carefully crafted. These kids are an inspiration.

Bag camp began today. Beautiful works are already underway. 😊🙌

Three spectacular quilts were completed today and two more are almost done. What a fun few days it was seeing everyone’s designs come to life.
