In Portland as it is in Heaven. In Portland as it is in Heaven

How do we know it’s God speaking?

Ask yourself: What does the voice I’m listening to motivate in me?

God’s voice leads us toward generosity, trust, and open-handedness. The voice of deception leads us toward self-protection, negotiation, and scarcity.

The voices we listen to shape the people we become.

This past Sunday, we gathered to celebrate Juneteenth.

Around tables and over good food, we shared stories, reflected on the beauty of the Kingdom of God in Portland, and took time to honor a day that reminds us of both remembrance and hope. It was special to see our church family gathered on a summer evening—eating, connecting, having a good time, and joining together for a meaningful night of celebration.

Thank you to everyone who came, served, and celebrated with us.

Gather with us this Sunday (June 14) after the 5 PM Gathering for a Juneteenth celebration of freedom, resilience, and joy. Bridgetown Justice is hosting a cookout in our south parking lot, including yard games, music, and storytelling as we celebrate and reflect on the beauty of the Kingdom of God in Portland.

Family and friends welcome! We’ll have tents for shade from the weather (and snow cones to keep you cool). Register to attend or serve at bridgetown.church/weekly

Through loss, disappointment, and unanswered questions, we are often tempted to take control.

But Genesis reminds us that God’s blessing is not something we secure for ourselves. It is a gift received through trust.

Even when we falter, God’s faithfulness holds our lives together.

This past Sunday, we entered Part Two of our Genesis series.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll journey through the story of Abraham verse by verse. These texts reveal the pattern of blessing, rebellion, and response that runs throughout the Scriptures. In them, we see both the persistence of human failure and the surprising faithfulness of God.

In the story of Abraham, we see a God who chooses the unlikely, blesses the overlooked, and remains faithful to his promises. Through this family, God begins a redemption story that echoes throughout the rest of Scripture.

Healing often means going back to the place of pain, not alone, but with Jesus’ presence and love.

In this week’s teaching, we reflected on how Jesus met Peter in his shame to bring healing, and how many of us can’t move forward into the life God has for us without first addressing the wounds we carry.

We have to go back to go forward.

We often think of love in parts—friendship, romance, family, generosity.

But at the center of it all is agape, the self-giving love of God. The kind of love that becomes the container for every other kind of love to be formed and held rightly.

On our own, we can’t produce it. But through the Spirit, God’s love begins to take shape in us—reshaping how we love in every area of our lives.

This is the love we’re being invited into.

Biblical hope is about learning to hear differently. God’s first words are blessing. The enemy’s first words are deceit.

“Did God really say?” has always been the question that distorts trust.

We must hold unswervingly to what God has revealed and promised about His character in the light, and remember that hope is our story.
