Why now? Why Gaza?
A call to spiritual leaders.

I believe Gaza is loud because spirit is saying “enough is enough! It is time to acknowledge allllll the hurt and to come together as one humanity.” It was never about calling out one calamity over another, it is simply the spark that was needed for many of us to stop numbing and start looking closer at the ways oppression is playing out, and to think and convene about what we can do about it.

I am speaking those of us who “woke up” to Gaza, and allowed it to expand our perspective and see all of the current atrocities in the world. Although it’s easy to choose fear in a world riddled with violence, I have found myself moving closer and closer to love as I allow myself to see. It is one thing to know they are there, and another to see and call them out by name. Gaza, Conga, Armenia, Sudan, Ukraine. I want to see you. I am not going to look away ever again.

I feel the invitation to create change in collective consciousness in how we address, include, and align ourselves to the truth of grief and love, all in one breath. Like George Floyd was the spark who ignited many of us into racial justice work, one soul (or one soul of my soul) can have a ripple effect that turns eyes and consciousnesses towards the suffering that we have (up until now) chosen to ignore.

As someone who has felt her grief was not as welcome as her love in spiritual spaces, I feel the call to acknowledge the both/and. The fact that we have seen suffering and been complacent (um hello I live in Portland which is riddled with houseless and addicted folks who no one seems to want to see or help or have humanity for). And I am so guilty of complacency.

I hear the ancestors scream out for us to reach out to our brothers and sisters who would never find their way to our temples of healing because they have no idea where to look, nor do they feel that anyone would care. They have been lost and forgotten for too long, just as we have lost and forgotten ourselves.

But in remembering them (all of them, and us) and showing through our words and our actions that we do see and we do care, we can start moving in community toward innovating solutions that will actually shift the paradigm. We can put our ancestral, earth based wisdoms in motion. We can move our healing hearts and hands from the mountains into the valleys and everywhere in between.

It’s not enough to pray or hope for a “new earth.” It’s time to be in a brand new way of moving through the earth. Intention + action = change.

I hope that we can all keep sharing our wisdom in what gets to be named, in the suffering we are aware of in ourselves, our communities, and in our globe, so that I and we can bring in those who are hurting and hear them and love them, truly love them.

This full moon in Leo has illuminated my darkest shadows as well as my greatest creative gifts. I’m in awe of how the human experience can bring us into the deepest despair one moment and then the next we are rising again like the Phoenix. I have been in such a period of incubation over the past year+, experiencing so much oscillation between deep grief and an even deeper reverence for myself and the mysteries of this life.

I notice that as each day of 2023 passes I am deconstructing so many old paradigms, thoughts, ideas, creative endeavors, labels, expectations, fears, trauma, the list goes on. I feel like the version of me that I am meeting these days is more myself than I’ve even been, and at the same time I keep seeing the sharp threads of the past that have been woven through my experience as the tapestry of my life keeps shifting, changing, transmuting, becoming. It’s been everything, all at once.

Sometimes I am terrified. The grips of my pain and programmed self-loathing choke me. Other times I am soaring, expansive, fully embodied in my wholeness. There is a lot to care about in this life, yet there are moments when caring feels like too much and all I can do is fall apart so I can come back together more beautiful than before, like Japanese pottery.

I have a desire to come back into my sacred work, to offer my gifts of healing and insight to others, but each time I begin I am met with another version of myself that has to die. I must pause to acknowledge, grieve, and bury her and then move on to the next iteration. This is a cycle I’ve experienced my whole like but it’s been sped up to the point where the death and rebirth process happens in a matter of days instead of months or years. I am completely in the mystery, and yet I feel help by something my former self has no knowledge of. I have spent years externally seeking, looking for answers to the mystery, finding moments of comfort in the uncertainty and then quickly following my mind back to looking for solutions.

But now I ask, what problems have I been trying to solve? Are they really problems at all? When my cat needs a surgery and I need money to come into my life, do I see that as a problem or an opportunity to expand further into my creative potential? Can I hold this experience of fear of the unknown, of the possibility of losing a being that I love, who is not yet 5 years old, alongside the faith that the money that I need to help my friend will come through, or another solution that I haven’t yet thought of? Can I hold my fear and love all at the same time without making either feeling wrong? Can I embrace possibilities while staying grounded in my messy reality?

It’s not lost to me that my kitty named Leo, after the sign of creative expression and bold, is the one who needs support and healing now. In my own natal chart, I have Chiron in Leo, the wounded healer. Leo is also the missing leg of the challenging “t-square” that I have between my Sun/Mercury, Moon, and Pluto. I have been ignoring my creative healing for so long and I am grateful that the grief of my current experience is bringing me back home to her.

Well, here we are, entering the season of complicated families, consumerism, ceremony, and celebration!

Today I am celebrating time with family and also deeply honoring the memory of so many indigenous ancestors whose involuntary sacrifice helped create the celebration of Thanksgiving we have today in the U.S. This is a complicated holiday in complicated times; a potent reminder of the light and shadow inherent in all things.

Personally, I spent the holiday at a small family gathering in my hometown outside of Seattle, Washington. My daughter and I got to spend time with my dad and brother, and meet both of their girlfriends! Coming from a traumatic childhood with an alcoholic mother who died by su***de when I was 22 (and my brother was 12), family life hasn’t always been easy. Add to that my lifelong intuitive sensitivity and very “woo-woo” point of view, it’s been a challenge to be fully authentic with my family. I guess I’ve been a bit of a black sheep all might, and maybe you can relate to the feeling of needing to hide parts of who you are to feel safe...

However, today I am celebrating a moment yesterday when I found myself speaking freely about my Soul Alignment coaching work and how I am so passionate about helping people who are ready to connect more deeply with their Souls to understand and embody their divinity. I even shared how it felt awkward but empowering to share about my sacred work, and was encouraged by one of our young guests to “own it!” How encouraging is that!?

I also remember the look in my daughter’s eyes as I was speaking about this; it was a look of reverence and recognition, like she was seeing me be truly seen by others. What a magical moment!

If there is anything I’ve learned on this life’s journey, it’s that spiritual growth happens in stages. Once we get really in tune with who we are at Soul level, we can start to embody that in our day to day lives, even in some of our oldest and most challenging relationships. Authenticity is something that can be learned and cultivated, and expressing ourselves authentically is so rewarding. This journey is what I’m truly grateful for today.

So many of us feel lost, or trapped, always looking for that next step in the “right direction,” the way out, or through. We naturally seek safety so we look outside of ourselves for answers, not recognizing that it is in this moment we become lost.

We may create a vision or a dream and say “that is where I want to go. That is where it will feel safe, that is where I’ll finally get to be me. And when I get there, I’ll feel free.”

You travel outwards and as you do, you slowly lose sight of who you really are. You make choices that are incongruent with who you were made to be. This happens over a lifetime and through lifetimes, and pretty soon what feels like “you” is actually just a false trajectory you’ve created through choice that you’re stuck on like a hamster wheel because it’s what feels familiar; what feels safe.

Your mind forgets it’s Divine creative potential and you go on to live and die and largely create more of the same thing you’ve always created, always worrying “am I safe?” Sure, some things may change slightly, but ultimately that big vision you have for your life remains in the elusive “future.”

There is another way. A way of living true to yourself.

The first step to changing this pattern is acknowledging that you’re in it.

This can be the hardest part because your ego will do its best to convince you that you are on the path, that you’re doing things right, that it will all work out “eventually” as long as you keep ignoring those nagging thoughts and “stop doubting yourself.”

This is a nice sentiment that can keep us going for awhile. But what you really need to be asking yourself is - what do your results say? Now, today, are you creating what you want?

If not, I see you. I am you. And I would love to share the Divine reflections that I offer my 1:1 clients to help them realign with their Soul and step off the hamster wheel so you can start creating the results that you want.

✨🌑New Moon in Scorpio🌑✨

This new moon is an initiatory portal through the shadows of your inner world, giving you the opportunity to see what is no longer working and clear out the emotional clutter that has been dimming your precious light.

Importantly, the Sun and Moon in Scorpio are directly opposed to Uranus in Ta**us at 12 degrees. Uranus has been and will continue to travel through Ta**us for several years, destabilizing structures and asking us to radically reform our values, our relationship to our bodies, and how we balance work with relaxation and self-care.

If any of these are areas you have been ignoring (your body, your values, your self care), you may find this new moon hits hard. Further, the quincunx with Chiron in Aries means that we could be pulled in two directions when it comes to our core wounds and shadows. One part of us might be eager to push through our healing in order to get to the next thing, while the other part knows that transformation is an ongoing process that cannot be rushed.

Despite these challenging aspects, ultimately I would call this a supportive new moon because of how it encourages us to engage in some much needed energetic clearing. In a time when so many of us are seeking greater clarity in all aspects of life, both personally and globally, we must remember that clearing the emotional and mental clutter we carry is key to creating the space necessary for greater clarity to shine through.
