Portland Youth Philharmonic
Portland’s locally-grown orchestra, astonishing audiences since 1924.
In celebration of Juneteenth, we're highlighting the music of acclaimed American composer Jessie Montgomery.
Featured here is Portland Youth Philharmonic's performance of *Strum* from our 100th Anniversary Concert in May 2024. Inspired by the energy and spirit of American folk traditions, *Strum* is filled with driving rhythms, rich textures, and an infectious sense of momentum.
As we celebrate Juneteenth, we honor the contributions of Black composers whose creativity and artistry continue to shape the classical music landscape and inspire musicians around the world.
