Authentic Youth Engagement Starts With Recognizing Firsthand Experience as Expertise This podcast episode spotlights a free training series about utilizing youth engagement in child welfare. Learn more about the episode.
No mother – especially minors – should be locked away during such a sensitive time.
And nobody should be locked away simply because of where they are born.
ICE is currently sending undocumented pregnant teens to an immigration detention center in Texas. They are stripped of a support system, hundreds of miles away from their home, and with limited access to the special medical care they need.
We’re calling on Congress to take action and push ICE to release young mamas from detention. ✊🏽

Happy Pride Month. 🌈
In times like these, choosing joy is an act of courage.
Pride has always been more than a celebration. Pride reminds us that progress has always been driven by people who refused to be silent, refused to disappear, and refused to give up on a better future.
So this Pride, celebrate with us. Show up for one another. Speak out against injustice. Together, we protect the progress that’s been made and continue pushing for the future we deserve.
Our joy is powerful. Our community is resilient. Our fight for equality continues.

Market place, plenary sessions and sessions were fabulous!
The Justice and Joy Staff and Fixing Democracy Leads showed up and showed out at the convening sessions. We’re proud to celebrate our staff and leads who shared their expertise, passion and powerful insights with attendees during their sessions. Jeannette and Hely was part of the panel Girls’ Strategies to Advance Civic Engagement. Jamelia, Dejah and co-presenters led meaningful conversation during “Building a Care Economy for Young Caregivers.” We were honored to be a part of the G4GC convening 2026!

Day 1: G4GC Convening 2026 Pre-Conference: Centering Youth Voices in Philanthropy and Civic Engagement Charlotte, NC did a fabulous presenting on Fixing Democracy and the Rapid Response Education Fund. The group activity got everyone engaged and shared great ideas for their own rapid response fund!

In honor of AAPINH Heritage Month, we are highlighting and expressing gratitude for some of the many Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Native Hawaiian women and gender-expansive leaders—past and present—whose work has shaped justice, culture, and community. We recognize their vision, labor, and lasting contributions. While we aren’t able to uplift all who deserve recognition, these are some whose impact continues to inspire.
Amanda Nguyen: Human rights advocate and founder of Rise who led efforts behind the Sexual Assault Survivors’ Rights Act, advancing legal protections for survivors and reshaping how the justice system responds to sexual violence.
Terisa Siagatonu: Award winning poet and activist whose storytelling centers healing, identity, and empowerment for Pacific Islanders and beyond.
Dr. Connie Wun: Co-founder of AAPI Women Lead, building gender justice spaces and centering the experiences of AAPI women and girls, including those impacted by violence.
Patsy Mink: Former U.S. Representative and co-author of Title IX, transforming access to education, athletics, and opportunity for generations of women and girls.
Pramila Jayapal: U.S. Representative and immigrant rights advocate who founded and led OneAmerica (formerly Hate Free Zone), building grassroots power with immigrant and refugee communities and advancing policies on healthcare access, labor protections, and immigrant and racial justice.
Dr. Haunani-Kay Trask: Scholar and activist for Hawaiian sovereignty whose work examined the intersections of racism, sexism, and imperialism, centering Native Hawaiian self-determination and struggles for liberation.
Yuri Kochiyama: Civil rights activist who built cross-movement solidarity and worked across struggles for racial justice, liberation, and human rights.
Alice Wong: Disability rights activist and founder of the Disability Visibility Project, amplifying disabled voices and expanding disability representation across media, culture, and public discourse.
Dr. Grace Lee Boggs: Community organizer and philosopher whose work emphasized youth leadership, intergenerational learning, and the idea that personal and community transformation are deeply connected in building new social realities.
It’s our 143rd anniversary! We are so proud of the 143 years of advancing social, economic & political justice with and for girls, young women and gender expansive young people of color. 143 years later there is still work to be done. Times are hard. We’re still here - 143 years strong.
This year, Justice + Joy National Collaborative honors 143 years of standing with girls, young women, and gender-expansive young people of color through changing times, evolving challenges, and generations of movement-building.
What began as refuge became resistance. What began as support became transformation.
Today, we continue to challenge unjust systems, center lived expertise, and build futures rooted in both justice and joy.
For us, this milestone is not just about looking back. It's about moving forward with urgency, courage, and community.
