They said it couldn’t be done... 1,100 mind-boggling feet of elevation gain into the thin air of Pleasant Mountain, “Maine’s K2”. . While I didn’t reach the main summit due to the deaths of my entire hiking party, and my need to go to work, to quote MacArthur: I shall return.

Having fun playing with some zany 70s/80s funk tones.

Synth bass and strings (you’re hearing Tricerachorus in addition to the on-board modulation) I programmed on two Behringer Pro-800’s and lead synth on the Roland SE-02. External reverb added.

Organ and Wurlitzer from the Viscount Legend One. That is the absolute limit of my setup… pedal bass, electric piano, organ, synth strings, lead synth… I don’t have any more limbs! 😂

It is vital to pause, and verify information before sharing stories and images from social media. It is amazing how much disinformation is out there, even with seemingly harmless/ feel-good stories.

I recall a Facebook post about classical violinist Itzhak Perlman donating $12.9m from his most recent tour to charity. I remember thinking “what classical musician makes $12.9 million on a tour?!”, and quickly did an internet search, where I could find no news stories backing this up.

I did find that he in fact had donated a $1 million Genesis Prize to charity in 2016—incredibly generous and newsworthy in and of itself. So please— pause, think and corroborate information before sharing.

The feeling of achievement and wonder that comes from learning a new piece on an instrument.

I had a lot of fun helping a student pick out the piano parts from the background of The Black Crowe’s “Remedy” for the band she joined with other adults (most of whom are new to playing in bands). There’s a lot of great New Orleans-inflected stuff in there, it’s just buried very deep in the mix, so it’s hard to hear without lots of experience learning off of records.

I love seeing the enthusiasm and excitement when a student unlocks the secrets of a favorite recording. It’s also been a great way to introduce me to new (to me) music.
