Students in last week’s Marine Biology camp had a great week studying marine life in the field, using microscopes, and documenting their findings. Understanding our marine world is so important, especially as we face rising sea water temperatures and an increase in invasive species.

"Don't Lose Your Marbles" is a short film written, produced, acted in, and scored by Baxter Academy students as part of their 9th grade Flex Friday experience. After the project was approved by their coach, JJ Rodriguez, these students reached out to Portland Media Center for support and were met with more guidance than they could have anticipated.

They were allowed to use their sets and shown how to write a proper script, block scenes, work professional cameras and microphones, and edit the short film. We'd love to extend our gratitude to the PMC for all the support they provided our students. 🎬🎥📹📽

We are pleased to announce that Jessica Ward has been selected as Baxter Academy's new Principal/Head of School. Jessica brings extensive experience as a Principal, educator, and regional education administrator, most recently serving as South Regional Director for Jobs for Maine's Graduates (JMG). Known for her collaborative leadership style and commitment to student success, Jessica's experience in STEM education, curriculum leadership, and social-emotional learning makes her an outstanding fit for the Baxter community.

Departing Principal, Cicy Po, concludes her time at Baxter this month. We are grateful for her leadership, dedication, and service to our students, staff, and community, and we wish her every success in her next role as Principal of Greely Middle School.

Audrey McLellan achieved much during her time at Baxter. At graduation, she said, "Baxter Academy is a place of great opportunity; a place where those of us with a greater passion for invention, ingenuity, and learning can flourish and evolve beyond our abilities."
