Chad R. Bowles - Pianist
"His pianism is strong, fluent, nicely nuanced." -Audiophile Audition "Bowles plays with uninhibited imagination and sweep." -Fanfare Magazine
A little “Humoreske” from York Bowen’s Miniature Suite from last fall.
Bowen being Bowen, even at 19 years old he somehow manages to pack this music with so much sparkle and character. That’s what I love about this piece — it feels youthful, yes, but already so fully formed in personality! Hope you enjoy! 🎹

Back in Portland, OR with my Tholen Fellows at Portland Piano International!
So thrilled to be here again — the energy, the curiosity, and the level of playing are always rewarding. It really means a lot to feel like I’m contributing to the piano playing and teaching happening here in Oregon. I always leave feeling inspired! 🎶

This weekend I had the pleasure of sitting down with Nancy Roldán for an interview for the upcoming Sonus International Music Festival.
We talked about my experiences studying with the incomparable Earl Wild, I played some of his music, and we also explored my thoughts on teaching and working with students.
The theme of this year’s festival is “The Unseen Spark,” celebrating the powerful and often invisible ways teachers inspire their students — something that resonates deeply with my own musical journey.
The interview will air in April, and I’ll share more details soon. Stay tuned! 🎹✨
One more short rehearsal clip: sometimes one movement is all it takes.
The Nocturne from York Bowen’s Miniature Suite was the reason I fell in love with this work. He wrote it at just 19 years old, and yet it holds extraordinary emotional depth — tender, searching, and beautifully intimate. This is the last third of that movement.
This clip also catches the playful start of the third movement, which feels like Bowen winking at us after all that introspection.
Such a joy to explore this music. 🎶
Rehearsal mode: fully committed. 😅
Here’s a short Liszt clip from earlier today. This music doesn’t believe in halfway, and honestly, that’s why I love it.

What a night! Chad tackled a challenging program of Scarlatti, York Bowen, and Liszt — and the audience couldn’t have been warmer or more curious. He even stayed afterward to chat and share a few laughs with listeners! 🎹

Just me, a cup of coffee, and a few pages of music that might give away what I’ve been working on lately. Can you spot the clue? 😊 Something exciting and very, very dear to my heart is coming soon — can’t wait to share it with you! 🎹
