So, in 2008, I met someone who I had heard was "a holy terror".
What I found was someone warm, gracious, and down to earth.
Tonya Harding.
You see, I adapted Elizabeth Searle's opera to a rock opera - Tonya and Nancy: The Rock Opera.
It was arranged to meet her in Vancouver, on her turf. It was like old times.
As you see The Oregonian, as well as almost every news outlet, wanted some of Tonya - trucks were outside the theater; everything from CNN to EPSN. Press coverage all the way to New Zealand.
In December of 2008, Tonya threw me a birthday party - Jeff, my partner, was in on it - my first birthday party. And folks, Tonya PAID for it! She invited my kids, and most got to come.
I am proud to know Tonya and now there's a statue of her in Pioneer Square!

I love what I do. And there are moments that you look back and say, "That really happened?"
Grateful too that Tonya has been honored in this way.

Christmas isn't Christmas Anymore December 23, 2025 final 12/24/2025

Today is Christmas Eve 2025.
If any of you have read my book "Crumbs of Love (and that's all you'll ever get) you'll understand that this holiday wasn't the joyous wonderful time that many have had.
I don't complain, hey, we got through it and moved on.
As I grew older with marriage comes children then grandchildren and those childhood times, though with me, aren't the ones I have to enjoy, but my blended family. Then with the theater and the LGBTQ+ community it just expanded.
Years ago, I wrote lyrics to a song "Christmas isn't Christmas anymore" with the feeling that as I age, the days set aside for Christmas aren't quite what I want. But if you watch the video (generated by AI no less) you'll see that joy comes from the sparkle in a young person's eyes when they see the tree, the gifts, and their loved ones.
I hope you like it.

I wish everyone a day filled with those you have in your lives that bring the joy and sparkle in your eyes.
This is the only time these days are here, cherish them.
Donnie

Holiday Cheer from triangle 2025 12/22/2025

I have been blessed to be in the theater and LGBTQ community here in Portland for over 40 years. It has been a privilege to be part of Portland.
I wish to thank everyone for taking time out of your lives to be part of mine.
Over the past several weekends, triangle productions! presented The Donnie Show. Sometimes the acts were top-notch, the others need some work, but honestly, haven't we all been in one of these places at a time in our lives - maybe even now.
It's been a rough couple of months personally for me, nothing I'd like to share, but I know today is the day we live, not in the past or the future, though using both as our brackets to keep us alive. I'm not monetarily rich, and neither is triangle, but I am rich with friends, family, and relationships. So, again, THANK YOU all for being part of my and triangle's family.
The final night, December 14th, those on stage shared their talents, and then the audience got involved, and here's the video of that time.

Have a safe holiday, and thank you for the blessings you give me and everyone here at triangle.

Wham! - Last Christmas (Official Video) 12/21/2025

Getting closer to the 25th. I found this question interesting, but then a lot of lyrics to a lot of songs can be taken either way.
Have fun with it - and the next time you hear it...there maybe some 'gay' undertones! hahaha
People who ask, “Is ‘Last Christmas’ a gay song?” often point to the lack of gender and pronouns in its lyrics. The song is mostly addressed to an anonymous “you” who has left the singer heartbroken, though the singer also addresses them as “baby” and “someone to rely on.
Here are the lyrics many people point to when suggesting that Michael may be singing to either a man, a woman, or someone of an indeterminate gender.
It’s likely that this man is George Michael himself, but it’s entirely possible that the man could be the lover that the song is addressed to.
Does the “fire in his heart” refer to Michael’s heart or that of his lover? Does the “man undercover” refer to Michael — because he felt like a closeted gay man at the time — or is his lover “undercover” because he’s hiding his true affections for someone else?
It’s worth noting that when Michael repeats this stanza near the end of the song, he sings, “A man under cover, but you tore him apart,” changing “me” to the third-person male pronoun “him,” possibly suggesting a man other than Michael or a past version of himself that he now feels distant from.
The debate over whether “Last Christmas” is a gay song mostly hinges upon these lyrics and the singer’s sexual orientation. However, the song’s 1984 music video also holds a vital clue.
(Chorus) Last Christmas I gave you my heart
But the very next day you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I’ll give it to someone special
Once bitten and twice shy
I keep my distance, but you still catch my eye
Tell me baby, do you recognize me?
Well, it’s been a year, it doesn’t surprise me
However, one stanza that appears later in the song mentions “a man undercover” with “a fire in his heart.”
A face on a lover with a fire in his heart
A man under cover, but you tore me apart
Oh, oh now I’ve found a real love
You’ll never fool me again

My mission is to have everything of triangle productions! scanned and stored on hard drives by 2027.
Okay, ambitious? Maybe. But there have been over 300 shows and events in our history.
Fortunately, when Sherry Okamura worked here, she scanned a lot, so she went through each binder and making sure nothing was left out.
This also allows me to look at things for The Donnie Show. I got excited when I saw PORTLAND WOMENS THEATRE in the 1990/91 Theatresource newsletter that had been for a while published by PATA/Portland Area Theatre Alliance then a name change to Play By Play. You see, Sandra deHelen is going to be on the show this Friday, and seeing the company she started back when triangle started is exciting. And I discovered that I had forgotten.
Can you recognize any of the companies on the list - over 3/4 are no longer in operation.
I want to give a shout-out to Howie for all the work he had done at PATA, as well as Bernie Wright.
Have a wonderful day and peruse away!
Hope to see you at The Donnie Show this weekend!
