Music creates joy. Joy comes from a few places that are surprisingly universal:

Emotional release — In an environment where vulnerability is dangerous, music becomes a safe pressure valve. A single chord can say what someone hasn’t said in years.

Connection — Playing together breaks down the invisible walls between people. A group strumming the same rhythm becomes a temporary community.

Identity beyond incarceration — Music lets someone be a learner, a musician, a creator — not just an inmate number.

Hope — Learning an instrument is inherently optimistic. It says: I believe in a future version of myself who can do this.

The women at Coffee Creek need art supplies. Their creativity is growing, their confidence is rising, and their work is changing lives. If you are able, please donate or gift any art supplies you have. Your support makes a real difference.

Art has the power to open hearts and open minds, even behind prison walls.
When someone picks up a paintbrush, writes a poem, or steps onto a stage, they’re doing more than creating—they’re healing, reflecting, and reimagining who they can become.

Let’s join Oregon Justice Resource Center June 9 at 7 pm at the Clinton Street Theater to watch THE STRIKE, the story of a protest that rose from a whisper inside Pelican Bay to a statewide movement. Solitary confinement causes profound harm — Oregon must choose a better path.
