Midnight Pacific Studio is my personal studio and classroom, not a retail storefront. I do not have

Can anyone relate to this? Have you been in the “Goo” stage for longer than you want to admit? I have! 👋🏼

What that means is that I have to take more drastic action and finally force myself off the ledge. 😬

I’ve been stewing in the “Goo” for long enough!

What’s the saying? “If you want an extra extraordinary life, you’re going to have to do extraordinary things.” Or something like that.

Time to get serious about the changes that I have been hoping for, because clearly they aren’t just happening with the casual effort I’ve been putting out lately.

I am getting way more intentional about my time, and where I put my energy.

The stories we tell ourselves can be so sneaky. And they can feel so true! But they aren’t.

This is such a big topic and can apply to every facet of our lives.

But here’s the thing. The stories are there for a reason. They protect you from something. They protect you from risk and from being vulnerable and from the unknown.

But obviously all the best things are on the other side of that story.

Storytime: “I don’t have a place to work on my art and sculpture ideas because my studio is for jewelry, which is how I make money, so that is more important”

Truth: I can do both! I can get more organized and make space for other art in my studio. If I have to I can pack jewelry projects away temporarily to work on something else. And then do it in reverse when I go back to the jewelry projects.

It might be annoying but it’s not a reason to not make art. Like, seriously wtf?! Do we see how lame of an excuse that is?

If I REALLY want to I will.
This applies to so many things, not just art.
We have more control over our lives than we want to admit.

No more playing the victim.
Time to shift the story.

Do you have any sneaky stories that you want to share?

Or maybe just take some time to ponder it and get REAL with yourself.

AUTHENTICITY!

We want it. Where is it? Can you even find it online?

Can we create a more authentic social media world? I hope so. 🩵 Seems like it’s here to stay, and as a business owner and artist it is in my best interest to interact with it so that I can share my work with the world. (Except for the whole AI thing, that part is definitely bad for artists)

Thank you all so much for your beautiful and encouraging comments yesterday!

I fear that I won’t be able to come up with something interesting to talk about every day but that can’t possibly be true.

And also, it’s not even the point!

Anyway, I gotta go do some squats on the beach! 💪🏼

When you and your partner are both self-employed and have no set schedule, things can feel a little chaotic at times!

Especially when one of those jobs is entirely dependent on weather and tides. “The tide waits for no one” as they say.

I help my partner Yuri on the boat quite often. I recently even started being the deck hand when he is diving. He is underwater while I am sorting clams and monitoring the compressor and boat.

Maybe I will make a video about that soon too, if that is interesting to people???

One of the things that I definitely struggle with in my work/life balance is structure and schedules. I’m sure a lot of self-employed people out there can relate! Can you?

While I LOVE my freedom and wouldn’t change it for anything, I definitely see the inherent value in some sort of structure.

Ugh, it is one of my biggest challenges! Do any self employed people out there have ways that they successfully keep themselves on a schedule?!

(I know kids or employees would help with schedules but we don’t have any of those. And obviously kids add the problem of having no time at all 😂)

Alright, I’m doing something crazy!

I’ve been seeing some people posting this challenge where they talk to the camera every day for 30 or 100 days or something like that in order to improve their public speaking and also to get comfortable in front of the camera.

Before I even saw people doing this challenge, I had started doing this about a week and a half ago, but then I chickened out and didn’t post any of it.

When I was recording those videos I was cataloging what I was doing to break through the major creative block that I am experiencing right now.

My biggest goal with this challenge is to get comfortable with being SEEN.

And for some reason that feels very tied to this creative block that I’m in. I could write a whole book about that.

I need to figure out how to break out of old habits that are holding me back and embrace new ones that will help me grow.

Anyways I imagine I will touch on some of these topics as I record these videos in the coming month.

Ugh I’m nervous.

I am also not really making any promises about doing a certain number of days consecutively. I at least know myself well enough to that I will rebel against my own rules.

I will try to be authentic and show up just exactly as I am. Which is CLEARLY what I did here. lol.

So we are gonna try something new and it’s not going to be perfect, ok? Because it’s not supposed to be. That’s the whole point I think.

I am equally excited and stressed about upcoming changes. Feels like a weird time to discontinue brass and bring in gold, but there’s never a good time to do a hard thing.

So it’s time to shake things up a bit. I almost want to discontinue all my work and start from square one but I’m not going to do that. No need to get crazy. For now I am just discontinuing brass, and starting a new collection using silver and gold for my usual mixed metals vibe. Maybe some gold fill options too. We shall see how it all unfolds.

Thanks for being here 🩵

Portland peeps! Come out to the this weekend and next weekend.

In addition to jewelry, I will have a station set up for you to make your semi-custom ring orders. I have soooo many stones and examples of TEN different styles to choose from.

I get asked about custom orders a lot, but I don’t usually accept them for variety of reasons. Offering it within this structure makes it possible without having to send a million emails back-and-forth.

If this goes well I hope to offer this a couple times a year and to also get it online for people who don’t live in the area.

Steps:
1. Choose your stone.
2. Choose the design that goes around your stone.
3. Choose your ring band style.
4. Measure your ring size (or chain length).
5. Pay in full or $100 deposit.
6. Receive your order by Feb 1st
