🚨 Alert alert🚨
I just learned that somebody dropped out of what is going to be an amazing week at The Studio/ Corning Museum of Glass in early June.
I think they just waived the application process in an attempt to fill!

True story.
Thanks for considering!

Topic: Dropout Vessels

Date: May 15
Times: 10am – 2pm PDT. (break(s) included)
Participants:10 max per session

I'm asked far too often how thick a dropout blank needs to be to be dropped "x" inches. The answer is a bit more complex than just a measurement but it's also much more interesting. Join Nathan for two online sessions and learn everything he currently knows about creating amazing kiln-glass Dropout Vessels. In the end you'll be able to tackle any mold with any blank at any height. You may never want a mold with a bottom again!

- Learn to cut sheet glass for any shape of mold

Circles

Rings

Freaks

- Create blanks from multiple forms of glass including sheet, frit, rods and murrine

- Primer v Dropout Paste

- Compare firing theories

- Rim removal multiple ways. Thanks to GrindGlass.com

- Coldworking flat and rounded rims

- Un-slumping!

Please note: OnGrade Studio has been producing and using Flatop Dropout Rings for many years now (even before they were available to the public). It's almost all we know. This was never meant as a sales pitch but Flatop Rings will be relied upon during demonstrations and discussions.

Greetings! Tiny Drop Vessels (in person) starts on Saturday. Trigger Warning: Criminal (under) use of kiln space in this one! 😎.

In this short, fun workshop Nathan will try to prove that bigger isn’t better. Maybe smaller is better? Let’s find out and learn the finer points of creating tiny dropout vessels. Classroom projects will fit in your pocket at 2” in diameter. While making them you’ll learn multiple ways to design and create an appropriate blank and transform a few of them into micro vessels in the kiln and coldshop. At the end of the first day, we'll load kilns for the first of two firings. During the week in between sessions Nathan will re-fire the resulting fused blanks and turn them into amazing little drop vessels/bud vases. Students can schedule flexible work time during the week to assist or just monitor the process but attendance isn't mandatory until the 3rd. Students will leave the second day of the workshop with a small handful (seriously) of completed vessels. There are no prerequisites other than a willingness to explore and be challenged a bit while learning.
