Carlee is a community instigator with a grand love for Salem and notably fashionable shoes. Although most commonly known as the publisher of Press Play Salem arts + entertainment + culture magazine, Carlee has been designing and sewing for more than 30 years. Her interest in clothing combined with her environmental concern drives her wearable art, which conveys a message about waste, consumption, fast fashion and reuse.

Upcycling makes life better!

I've been quiet, but definitely not still :)

Salem artist fashions colorful clothes from whiskey packaging Artist Carlee Wright's exhibit of fashion made from repurposed trash will be on display through April at the downtown Salem on the Edge gallery.

I showcased a selection of my upcycled designs on the runway at RAW Artists Portland on Tuesday night. It was a fun opportunity and I had the BEST. MODELS. EVER....wearing the best shoes ever, too :)

Yes, I am showing at RAW Artists Portland tomorrow night (that's March 27 incase FB decides to show you this on Wednesday...) and yes, I did have a last minute moment of insanity - er, inspiration - and deconstructed my "Green Fairy" dress to create "Green Fairy 2.0"

Another shot...While I may sketch out ideas, much of my design work happens right on my mannequin since a lot creating with non-traditional materials is about "making it work"

Work in progress...this little lady is one of my Diamond Dogs, inspired by a 1950s wedding dress and Betty White. Go figure...

I've seen The Greatest Showman five times so far (don't judge)...and it's my inspirational jumping off point for the RAW Portland show in March...

Imagine: A ringmaster jacket from Crown Royal bags, a gown of burlap coffee sacks (yeah, burlap!!!) that transforms to/from a lion, a dancing girl in a rainbow petticoat created from layers of worn out t-shirts, a vagabond collection of performers decked out in upholstery samples and sequins made from bits of plastic...

Now to get it all out of my head...here we go!
