This summer, ShaʼCarri Richardson was removed from the Track & Field team for testing⁠ positive for cannabis. Just a few weeks later, Megan Rapino publicly endorsed CBD and launched a CBD⁠ brand. Is it okay for athletes to use CBD, but not other cannabinoids? Does it make sense to⁠ make this distinction?⁠ The World Anti-Doping Code, a standard followed by sports leagues and associations the world-over, continues to prohibit all cannabinoids except CBD due to their risk of harm to athletes and their performance, and to the image of sport. Does the science support their position? Or does it indicate that cannabis has the potential to address the most pervasive and debilitating conditions facing athletes as they work to excel in their sport?⁠

She was the first college graduate in her family, and the only black female student at the University of Washington during her years of attendance. The 4th of 15 kids, she moved to Seattle from Richmond, CA to pursue her medical career. From Cal Berkely to Cannabis, she has earned her stripes as a true maverick. She has inspired so many, including her husband and children, and she isn't done yet. ⁠

Dr. Rachel Knox, MD is a certified Medicine specialist who received her medical and business degrees from Tufts after completing her undergraduate studies at Duke. She trained in family and integrative medicine before pursuing additional study in the areas of functional medicine, cannabinology (the study of the pharmacology of cannabinoids and other cannabimimetic substances), and endocannabinology (the study of the function, dysfunction and modulation of the most important physiologic system in the human body, the endocannabinoid system). As a cannabinoid medicine specialist and endocannabinologist, she has counseled several thousand patients in cannabis therapeutics and seen first-hand how significant a role cannabis and cannabimimetics play in helping patients reclaim their health and overall sense of wellness, establishing renewed ownership over their lives. ⁠

Dr. Rachel believes that industry-wide engagement is necessary to maintain the highest standards of care and oversight, from seed to use, in the service of providing education and compassionate, wholly informed care to patients. This passion extends further into educating communities of color in the role cannabis can play to address the Minority Health Disparity Gap, and the broader way in which cannabis can impact the physical, spiritual, economic and political wellness of these communities.⁠
