Have you ever wondered how AI is helping scientists identify and track wildlife? πΎπ¦π¦
The Tech Interactive has developed a fantastic lesson on Animal Identification with AI. This is a perfect resource for educators, students, and conservationists alike! π
From recognizing unique patterns of animals like π¦ giraffe to training AI models for real-world conservation, this interactive lesson breaks down how technology is transforming wildlife research.

While whale sharks, yellow-bellied toads, and GrΓ©vy's zebras topped our data leaderboad last week, we were thrilled to add new individual ID support for Striped dolphins in Flukebook.org and Amur tigers in Whiskerbook.org. Despite their wildly different appearances, we use the same MiewID v3 AI model to tell apart individuals for both species.

Spinner dolphins (Stenella longirostris) topped last week's data leaderboard at Wildbook. Known for their acrobatics, they can spin up to seven times with each leap. Spinner dolphins are one of 62 species served in Flukebook.org.

Zebras, whale sharks, and lots of giraffe! Data growth across Wildbook species and users remains strong in 2025. This past week's uploads are no exception, and we added new species support for dwarf (Kogia sima) and pygmy s***m whales (Kogia breviceps) in Flukebook.org.

Our final weekly metrics report of 2024! This year we saw a 30% increase in total encounters and a 28% increase in known individual animals. What an amazing year of growth for the scientists and conservationists using Wildbook!

Spot a shark relies on photo uploads from our diving community to understand where the sharks move. This month one of the Bushrangers Bay babes (Mariah) has moved on to Jervis Bay.
Thanks to Raul Fernandes for your dedication to sharing photos! Thanks also to Jervis Bay dive centre for taking Sarah Han-de-Beaux over to Bowen Island in less than ideal conditions to try and spot the sharks!

This , YOU can help prevent the Sixth Mass Extinction.
Pictured is a whale shark, one of many species that conservationists work tirelessly to monitor and protect. At Wild Me (a core initiative of Conservation X Labs), weβre harnessing AI through open source software to empower researchers with faster, more accurate tools to track animals across borders, oceans, and time.
Your support today is an investment in bold, world-changing technologies that scale conservation efforts and create new possibilities for protecting wildlife.

We're thrilled to see harbor seals (Phoca vitulina) on last week's data leaderboard across all Wildbooks! https://Seals.wildme.org is a growing, multispecies platform that we're excited to bring to a global research and conservation community.π¦π¦π¦

The Angolan giraffe - a.k.a. "Smokey" or Namibian giraffe - topped our data leaderboard last week. Sand tiger sharks also appeared in the top 4. A common thread: the new MiewID v3 AI model is used to identify individuals from both species. We'll be announcing its capabilities soon!

Lagenodelphis hosei (Fraser's dolphin or Sarawak dolphin) formed the largest chunk of new data flowing into Wildbooks last week. Sometimes swimming in large groups of 100-1000, this wide-ranging species is also a deep diver (up to 500m). π¬
