This month, our RECPI Principal Seat shines a spotlight on Claudia McClellan, Vice Principal at Kellogg Middle School.
As a first-generation immigrant and educational leader, Claudia brings both professional expertise and personal experience to her work. She believes leadership starts with listening, building trust, and creating authentic partnerships with students, families, and staff.
"Community voice is essential because when families feel heard and respected, students feel empowered, connected, and more confident in their learning."
Thank you, Claudia, for your commitment to ensuring every student and family feels seen, valued, and supported.

Today, Portland Public Schools honors Juneteenth β a celebration of freedom, resilience, and strength. As we commemorate this day, we recognize the contributions, achievements, and leadership of Black communities, past and present.
Last Friday, Portland Public Schools broke ground on the future Cleveland High School.
Students, staff, alumni, families, elected leaders, community members, and project partners gathered to celebrate a milestone years in the making.
We are grateful to the voters who approved the bond measure that made this project possible and to the Portland Public Schools Board of Education for its leadership, advocacy, and commitment to investing in students.
Thank you to our project partners, Mahlum, Studio Petretti, PROCEDEO, and Skanska, for helping bring this vision to life, and to the many community members who helped shape the project through years of engagement and feedback.
Cleveland High School has served as a cornerstone of Southeast Portland for generations. The new campus honors that legacy while providing students with a modern learning environment designed to support their success for decades to come.
The next chapter for Cleveland is officially underway!

Parents and families at Chief Joseph Elementary recently held a de-paving event, beginning work to remove over 4,000 square feet of asphalt and replace it with trees, rain gardens, and other landscaping that will naturally absorb and filter stormwater.
The project is thanks in part to Portland non-profits, the Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership, which helps protect the lower Columbia River watershed, and Depave, which helps communities rethink underused, paved spaces. By working with schools and organizations to reconfigure schoolyards and parking lots so stormwater is absorbed naturally in the ground, the Partnership helps keep a significant source of pollution out of the watershed.
The project will continue throughout the summer, with community planting activities planned for the fall.
