Our dear brother, Harris Clemes, peacefully passed away last night at the age of 91 at Rosewood Park in Hillsboro. He was a faithful follower of the latihan since being opened in the mid-1960s, and his contributions to Subud over the years were immeasurable. He, Hussein Chung, and Reynold Bean founded the Human Institute in Palo Alto, which opened the door to the latihan for many folks who remain in Subud today. His PhD in Psychology from Stanford enabled him to have a private therapy practice for over 40 years, healing and enriching the lives of thousands of people by feeling the guidance from his latihan. His wisdom, compassion, patience, and surrender were examples to many. He is survived by his sons, Jeff and Pat, and by his wife, Maya. His oldest son, Roger, passed away earlier this year.

OPTIONAL SUGGESTION TO GIVE SUPPORT TO THE PADILLAS
Dear Subud members: As you probably know by now, Annie and Evan Padilla have lost everything they owned in a fire and are lucky to have survived the fire that took the lives of two people. Luckily, their cars were saved, and they did have fire insurance, but their pet cat was lost. Evan and Annie have given so much to Subud and Susila Dharma, and we know that many people would like to help.
Here is a suggestion that you might want to consider. Annie and Evan can use gift cards from 5 suggested stores below. This will save you the need to pay for shipping, and save them the problem of exchanging duplicate gifts.
As I said above, the Padillas do have fire insurance, so this is an option for people who want to go the extra mile to send a gift.
The stores they would like gift cards for are:
Target, Costco, REI, Nordstrom, and Starbucks
Send your gift card to the Padillas directly at:
Evan and Ann Padilla

Bellevue, WA 98009-0092
Thank you so very much for reaching out to our dear Subud brother and sister at this difficult time.
Yours in Subud and Susila Dharma,
Marilyn Schirk and Aminah Ulmer Herrman
(Aminah and I are leaving for India on Wednesday, so unfortunately, we may not be able to respond to emails regarding this letter.)
Don't forget, gift cards are the equivalent of cash and sometimes get intercepted in the mail. A good idea is to enclose them in a card that makes them less obvious as they are in transit.
How many people are coming to Menucha this year?

A good option of a Subud gathering for people not able to go to Puebla.
It would be wonderful to see people from the PNW!

Masque Alfresco Presents: The World Premiere of "Men & Women in the Dark". Written by Benedict Herrman, Emmanuel Williams, and Rian Turner. Directed by Fayra Teeters. Funds raised at Concessions will be donated to SICA and Susila Dharma!!!
Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, January 25th–27th and February 1st -3rd.
Synopsis: For millennia, men and women have been trying to figure each other out. Though we may be in the dark about each other, our greatest intimacy also comes in the darkness, through moments of deep surrender to one another. This play isn't about solving the mystery, but celebrating it at a slightly tilted angle in the hope of getting a better view.
Subud Portland welcomes our new Chair, Fayra Teeters, and wishes her the best in her two year term, ahead. Our thanks to the outgoing committee... Reynold, Lucy, and Mo... and even though she wasn't the official secretary, Marilyn! Thanks for your good work and dedication to the tasks at hand.
If you missed this last Menucha, it was fantastic! Don't miss next year's... start saving now, put it on your calendar, and see why people have been going every year, year after year.
Missin' my Portland group.
