This was the last song written during .evian’s class. Sam provided us with different drum samples he recorded of and told us to choose one that we were to write a song with. We were to focus on the drum groove and have the bass part informed by that. It was such a fun challenge and I’m stoked to share the song that came out of it.

Hello friends. I hope everyone is doing well and taking care of themselves this holiday season. Posting on here can be hard. Releasing music independently can be financially draining and emotionally exhausting and even more so in these times when you have to also be a “content” creator to get people to listen to your music. All of that being said, the last 6 months have been incredibly rewarding getting to release my songs every month and sharing them with all of you. I love writing and recording music and have a lot more to come.

Thank you to everyone who has been listening to “Dead Flowers”. It was one of three songs that I wrote during a month long songwriting course that was led by .evian through . The class was more than I could’ve hoped for and unlocked some doors that have been closed for too long. I met some really awesome songwriters and people through the class as well. I look forward to doing another class in the future. 😊

I started writing the idea for this song back in February of 2021. Maybe it was my effort to make sense of the state of the world at the time? It was also the first song I recorded after getting my Tascam 388 in March of 2022. It was the start of my journey into analog recording and learning how to work with tape.

I had the privilege of having some super talented musicians sprinkle their magic over this track. ✨
