As our eagle season winds down, the BRI raptor team invited some of our office folks to join them for a day in the field! 🦅

After carefully banding the eaglet, assessing its health, and collecting some samples, that eaglet was returned to its nest and it soon will be thinking of fledging! Once it leaves the natal area, it will be in search of reliable food resources such as Maine’s Sebasticook River - but young Maine eaglets commonly wander hundreds of miles away before eventually being drawn back to the general vicinity of “home”, sometimes years later.

We are grateful to the many private landowners, land trusts and agencies that are key stewards of Maine’s Bald Eagle population and allow us to access their land for this important work!

Los Llanos is a vast tropical savanna in Colombia, home to over 700 bird species!! Some of which include the Plain-Brown Woodcreeper (Dendrocincla fuliginosa, top left) and the Summer Tanager (Piranga rubra, top right)!

The bottom photos are Swallow Tanagers (Tersina viridis) – a male on the left and female on the right! Swallow tanagers have broad, flat bills that are specialized to help them catch insects mid-flight and forage for fruits. This adaptability helps them thrive across the tropical forest habitats! 🌴🦜

Last week, a webinar brought together national and international experts from the Red de Observadores de Aves y Vida Silvestre de Chile , and along with our own Holly Goyert! 🌊 With expertise in bird conservation, research, and the energy transition, they shared experiences and insights on the challenges associated with the development of this industry in Chile!
