Roller derby is back! Okay, it’s been back for a while. But the got back in front of my lens for the 2023 season, with some well-known faces and some new ones!

I’ll never ever get tired of photographing people doing the work they truly enjoy. What can I say? I love a good career pivot.

Somehow, it’s been an entire year since this spicy meatball came into our world, very dramatically and ahead of schedule. His body is still catching up with the calendar, but he’s moving, shaking, eating, and smiling with the best of them.

Time for my annual reshare of these dapper creatures. 6 years ago!

It was time for an updated headshot for , so we knocked that out in short order! Not everyone is lucky enough to live with a photographer, though, and I know some of y’all are working from home full-time. So, a couple of tips:

Employers: give your team advance notice when you anticipate needing new headshots! Like more than a week’s time. Giving them space to plan will help make it as low-stress as possible, and pays off in better and more professional-looking results.

If you’re the one needing a headshot, even if it’s a DIY at your home, this is a good example of what to do:
—a large, indirect light source is your friend. Try a north-facing window!
—be mindful of your background! Make sure it doesn’t detract or distract from you.
—Show some personality with your attire, and maybe even invite a prop or a furry friend, if your company is cool with it. ;)

My little buddy already has 1000 faces, and it’s really entertaining and heartwarming. 🥰 These are just a few!

Li’l meatball just needs to feed consistently from the bottle and then he can come home. He’s getting close!

One of my absolute favorite things is getting to shoot a photo and then design the card for it. This card was a great opportunity to play with ridonkulous metal-AF fonts and effects 😄

Raise a belated glass to this sweet, squawky girl who passed in recent months. Bella was a soft creature who had great affection for humans, and was a constant companion to her dad for over 15 years.

I’m grateful to have been trusted with the task of capturing her in photos while she was still full of spunky spirit. ❤️

I made a murder cake for a horror-movie-loving birthday boy. Also: if you’re wondering whether or not all those complaints about white chocolate on the Great British Baking Show were true, rest assured THEY ARE. 😆
